Default Michelin Tires Out Soon !

I noticed today on the Michelin web site they will be out with C5 and C6 tires in OEM sizes as well as Run Flat, Michelin calls them Zero Pressure (ZP). Coming out August 2008. I would assume in Z06 sizes as well. The new ZR1 is suppose to be using these new Michelin's as well. They are the Pilot Sport PS2 ZP. I will be needing some rear tires at least after my next HPDE @ VIR put on by the NCM coming up at the end of June. I think I will give these new Michelins a try next time I need rubber. Check it out at: http://www.michelinman.com/ps2zp/

Good information.

I wonder how the dry warm weather grip/traction of these Michelin® Pilot® Sport PS2 ZP tires compare to the OEM Z51 Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires?

From what I've read they suppose to be much better. I have the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires on my Z06 and they pretty good, I've been running them in HPDE's. I know there are better tires out there but the OEM's still gety the job done. They decided to go with the Michelin's for the ZR1 over the Goodyears and they wanted the better tires for the ZR1. The new Michelin's are suppose to wear better with better traction, go figure. It remains to be seen however.

Wow. I just ordered regular PS2s as I could not locate any complete front and rear sets fo GY F1 Supercars or F1 GS-2 run flats, (inlcuding TireRack and other GY dealers). Also, I was told by TireRack and a Firestone dealer that the Wide Oval RF Firehawks are nationally backordered and not sure when they will become available again.

My local Chevy dealer said he understood availability from GY and Firestone was a problem because of a pending deal with GM and Michelin for Michelin provide all OEM tires for the Corvette.....looks like he was right.

I hope the Michelin ZP's are better than the Goodyear and the Firestone runflats

But I seriously wonder if a high performance tire can actually be produced as a runflat at all. A tire needs to give around the sidewalls and absorb some of the stress. With a rigid sidewall can a tire really do this?

I like the theory of the runflat, just not the performance. Depending on the resulting reports over the next year or two, I may give runflats another try with the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ZP.

They are on the C5 as they have been available for the C5 OEM size for a few years. I had them on my 98 vert and they were a 100% improvement over the OEM GY's.

I have been hoping Michelin would bring the Pilot Sport A/S ZP's out in the C6 OEM sizes.

Great news! I would like to see lap times for a C6 with PS2 ZPs and one with just PS2s. I don't think you would be much of a difference if any.

Anyone find the Ron Fellows Road Atlanta Video that they said was there on the website?

I couldn't find the video either, I wonder what's up with that.
I agree I don't think there would be much difference in times between the PS2's and the PS2 ZP's. I prefer the ZP's regardless of the times because my car is driven on the street 95% of the time if not more and how often do we run a tire to the max of it's capability on the street? I don't ever on the street. I do HPDE's from time to time but I'll still take the ZP's. I don't have to be the quickest on the track anyway, the fun is running the car to the limit of whatever it is limited by. I'm not on the track for a trophy just for fun.

I will probably go with the PS2 ZPs. I was considering going with non runflats (PS2s) but I was thinking about some real crappy times to have a real flat such as a bad area of town, construction, on a bridge, in a tunnel, in the rain, etc. Even 95% with the Vette is abound to break a few laws pretty good. It already takes corners with ease at the recommended limit plus 25mph.

It is great to have options. I have generally had good luck with Goodyears but every time I have had Michelin tires they have exceeded all expectations. I received the Tire Rack magazine and they estimate August 2008 as the availible date also.

I agree about the Goodyears, they have always done well for me too. They are plenty good enough for the street and I've had good runs on them in HPDE's. I thought I'd just give the Michelin's a try, they are suppose to be better according to all the hype. I'll just have to see for my self. It remains to be seen.

Made in the U.S.A., article states maufacturing tires in Greenville, S.C. If the ZP's perform like the regular PS 2's, it will be a no brainer for me. I had the PS 2's and they were the best tires I have owned. Great news for corvette owners!
