Recent Trip Yellowstone and Black Hills
Wife and I recently took a trip thru Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, S. Dakota, Colorado.
From Seattle we headed to Rapid City for a few days swinging down into Yellowstone. Intent was to hit north Yellowstone then swing north to Billings and eventually Rapid City.
We were to spend the nite in Billings but due to a road closure (WY212) coming out of Yellowstone and reroute (WY296) were forced to spend the nite in Cody (See Nav Pict) before getting to Rapid City. WY212 was closed due to an avalanche.
We used Rapid City as a jump off to see sights al over the Black Hills National Forest. This included Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, & Deadwood. From Rapid City we headed down to Colorado Springs for a few days then back up to Jackson Wy and the south part of Yellowstone before heading back home.
At a lunch stop in Hot Springs SD, we were told about an approach to Mt Rushmore many seldom see, so we thought we would try it. Heading north thru Custer State Park we picked up Alt 16.
The picture coming thru the tunnel is the result. Directly ahead as you come out of the tunnel is Mt Rushmore, makes for a great sight.
Total trip was 10 days, and again what a pleasure the C6 is to drive.
Here are a few pictures.

I have done the black hills and surrounding areas many times. Always on the Harley. That is some beautiful scenery out there, and if this was your first time through there I am sure you had a good time.

Right off the Interstate on the way to Yellowstone
Some of you know of us, some of you don't. Ken and myself are at Fichtner Chevrolet in Laurel, Mt which is only 15 miles from Billings, Mt. Everyone that says they have went to Yellowstone have actually gone by us especially if you went into Yellowstone thru Red Lodge, Mt. If any of you are going and it is during working hours, please stop and say hello, we love seeing all of our forum customers and future forum customers.

That is some of the most beautiful land in this country. Been to all of these places many times. My most memorable trip though was when we went from Cooke City, MT to Red Lodge, MT on the Beartooth Hwy US 212 in our C5 on August 24th, 2004, and got caught in a blizzard going over the top. Made it off the mountain into Red Lodge and they closed the road behind us. Found out later it didn't open for 2 weeks. There were some who were stranded and had to be rescued off the mountain. Traction control worked pretty good in snow sometimes as deep as the grill opening!
Go here:

for pics and video clips of that highway 212 that was closed due to avalanche. 212 is closed every winter and reopened in the spring. Not easy to get through there this early in the season.
