How do you feel about taking your C6 to the strip ??
In the past, I was a "casual drag racer". I certainly wasn't a pro, but always wanted to see what my car would run, and I, actually, would go a few rounds, now and then. Over the years I had cars, mainly Mopars, that ran from the high 10's to low 15's, in the 1/4. Those cars, some old, some new, were street cars, and ranged in values up to $20K, at that time. -- Now, with my C6, I'd love to see what it will run, but I can't force myself to take it to the strip. I guess that's because of my concern for - insurance, and warranty, in case something happens, while on the strip. -- OR -- maybe it's because I'm an "Old Fart", or a little of both. -- How do you guys feel about taking your C6 to the strip ??

I wont even take mine there as a spectator-too afraid of door dings. Race my car? For what? I already know its fast. My testosterone levels are way too low at my age to race the Redhead.....

Why not? I love strippers.
Oh wait, drag strip. Ah! The car is meant to run, so a few passes shouldn't brake anything needing warranty repair. There is always a risk of the car in the other lane losing control and hitting you, or you losing control and hitting the wall, so the insurance thing IS a valid concern.
I took my C5 to the drag strip twice, never had a problem. But then there is a thread around here somewhere about a guy totalling a Z06 with 76 mi on it. (Not at a dragstrip though.) Life is short, and you could get hit by a bus tomorrow. There are risks everywhere. Assess the ones you are willing to take and go for it.

Good timing on this thread. I am planning on taking my car to the drag strip late this afternoon after work for our first time. I won't be going very often but a couple times to see what I can do and to just have fun.

Make sure you get plenty of blue painters masking tape to apply behind the rear wheels! Keeps the paint looking good and easy to peel of after without hurting your baby!!!

Take mine to the strip all of the time, the Las Vegas Strip! No, really I would like to try running the 1/4 mile, but living in San Diego I am not real sure where to go. Any suggestions?

If you have the urge....get out and do it!
I'm not much into off-the-line drag racing but I run my car on road courses 2 or 3 days each month. I know racing isn't for everyone but I'm always surprised with how few Corvette owners ever get their car on a track.
There are many different venues one can paricipate in....go to a test and tune night at the drag strip, take a HPDE course, road racing clubs, parking lot autocross races....it's all good.
I've done a few parking lot autocrosses with my local Corvette club but I far prefer running on a road course. To me, this is where one really learns how to drive their car...acceleration, braking, cornering, negotiating traffic, etc. There are venues where you can safely go at your own pace...learn and improve your driving technique. It's a blast!
IMO it's more dangerous driving to the track on the freeway than it is on the track. Yes, you have to be prepared to accept the risks involved but I find they're minimal compared to the rewards.
A few months ago I met a man with his new C6 at the race track...he was 75 years young. It didn't matter if he was the fastest guy on the track...he was out there doing it. I give this man a lot of credit.
Take your car to the track. Do you want to spend the rest of your life not doing things you want to do? My Mother used to say "I don't regret things I didn't get...I regret things I didn't do when I had the opportunity to do them." Do it...live your life!

I waited until my '07 M6 convertible was nicely broken in (about 1000 miles) and then gave the local dragstrip a shot. I'm no Don Garlits, but it ran very consistant 12.4 - 12.5 ET's at 115 mph all day long. No issues, no problems. Easy to hook up, and pulled like a freight train all the way through the quarter mile. Go do it.

It's a Corvette. Run it. You are just as likely to have a mishap actually more so on the street if you get carried away. With the exception of the other driver at the track which you can't control the piece of road you will be driving on is prepped for traction. On the street if you fool around you have a better shot of slipping/ sliding and going off the road. Besides traction control/ active handling can be your friends if you do not have a lot of experience.
