Actually this is a repost of the JSB Z06 crash thread. Fortunately this still leaves the count at two, but that's two too many.

Didnt know this was posted already. Sorry

With all the advances in technology it seems like one would be tough to die in an automobile accident.

She was a girlfriend of a cousin of the Corvette accident victim. They were driving a truck, it may have been one of those tall trucks and she may have tripped or lost her balance (pregnant) as she was getting out. The truck evidently was still running and rolled over her.

REgarding the accident victim: poor guy, only 32 years old with four young children. So sad.

I am at least glad this was not yet another accident involving Corvettes.

I agree it's a good question. Auto makers are putting more & more things in vehicles to protect us from ourselves. Some people just move around a lot in a car seat for some unexplained reason. Could have been having an argument with the boyfriend and threatened to open the door and jump out.

I saw a man driving an SUV sitting at a traffic light open the door, get out, yell at someone in the car behind him and get back in, TWICE, once after the light had already turned green. This happened a couple of days ago.

No "advance in technology" is going to help when a car leaves the road at highway speeds and strikes a solid, unmoveable object like a row of trees. Even *if* we made a completely solid car that didn't come apart when it hit the solid object, you'd still die because it is not humanly possible for the body to decelerate that quickly.

Stability control does not defeat the laws of physics... Might make for a handy scapegoat but I'm betting on "driver error" here. A tragedy, for sure, but no need to make up excuses.

Very sad indeed -

As responsible adults, we must learn to respect the power of these cars and drive within our abilities, not those of the machine.

The mention of a truck running over a pregnant woman was relaying the fact that another tragedy had struck the same family last August.

The article linked by this thread is indeed about a Blue 2008 Corvette fatality. I was on the sceen a few moments after it happened.

It appears that he was attempting to pass a vehicle, slide on some sand and rolled into some trees. There was also a guardrail that might or might not have come into play. The car came to rest with the bottom against the trees (driver's side down). The male driver died and his wife escaped with bruises.

Was he passing on a curve?

Yup, that's why cars are made to crush, to absorb some of energy and go from 30 mph to 0 in 4' rather than 2'.
