Default Battery died could use some advice

I have not driven my car for 2 weeks and apparently I did not leave it in reverse. Soooo, I purchased a charger and as I write this message, the battery is cooking.

My questions...

Will the fobs still maintain their memory settings? Will I have to reset the radio channels and seat settings? Does anyone have the name of the genius at GM who insisted on the reverse feature

Thanks for taking the time

FOBS & radio should be fine, possibly you will have to re-index the windows, takes just a minute to do that. I guess your car is a '05 as only the '05 need to be shut down in reverse.

If you're looking for a charger, check out the CTEK line of chargers, either the 800 or the 3300.

You will have to set the clock again, but not the radio presets.

You also may get the "service column lock" this will reset after you start the car a few times. Very common.

The fobs don't actually remember anything. Each fob has its own permanent digital code that it broadcasts when a button is pushed and when interrogated by a car. When a fob is programmed to a car, it is just a matter of telling the car that this particular digital code is OK. The car then remembers that one and up to three more, for a total of four. The car's memory for the fob is not volatile and so is not affected by the loss of battery power. Unfortunately many other memory areas of the car are volatile....

Only in the 2005 6-speed will you 'pay a penalty' if you fail to place the transmission in reverse when parking. That said, placing the transmission in reverse is a good practice to follow when parking any model year manual shift C6.

Just got back from a 10 day vacation and my '08 battery is dead also. I am really starting to hate my Corvette, and I may have to sell it with only 800 miles on it. I parked it in 1st. Not sure if that makes a difference. (No, nothing was left on)

Suggest you buy a "Priority Start" keeps a little juice left in the battery to start the car. Works great.

Are you sure it wasn't left in reverse? If you forgot to leave it in reverse, then it's your own fault. If, however, the car was in reverse and it still went dead it was not your fault at all.

If you left it in reverse, this may have been DBS, which was a problem unique to the 2005 MN6 cars. GM did issue a computer reflash TSB which took care of this problem. If your car has not had this fix done, you'd better get it done ASAP.

I would go to Sears and buy a DieHard Platinum battery. Get rid of that junky AC/Delco battery.

If it's the original battery I would buy a new one.
