Just curious, if you were to be given a stock Z06 or a C6, modded out (performance/cosmetics), which would you take?
Would be interesting to see how dominate the Z is and which route most would take.

The modified C6, every time. Why?
1. Removable roof.
2. The LS2/3, when modified, outperforms the Z06 for much less cash.
3. Stealth factor - people assume the "stock" C6 will lose a race. Oops!
4. I like to tinker with cars anyway.
Just a few reasons.

While that's all true Mike, some would still opt for the legendary Z, with all of it's history. While I would most likely get the Z and just be done with it, right out of the box, I have to admit, it would still be a tough call.

Z06...period

Since he said that they were being given away, cost is not an issue....but warranty coverage could very well be. That said, 427 cu in is a good starting point from which to mod if you are into that.
Your third scenario is one which I think many people believe exist to a much greater degree than actually does.
Many Z06 guys are also car guys coming over from other fast cars. Other formats. As such they know better than to just assume that they can trounce a modded car.
Once a car is modded, no matter the car, it can be a honda civic; running it against any stock car and all bets are off
You don't know whats in a modded car, so you cannot assume that you are going to beat it. Z06 owners know that as does everyone else.
Finally. "stealth" modification of a C6 to the point to where it can compete with a Z06 is going to be a tall order. Unless we are talking juice.
If its got headers and drag radials on it, two key mods which are probably going to be needed in order for it to consistently kill Z06s, well thats a dead giveaway right there.
You are going to hear the headers, and perhaps even hear the stock cam through the thin walls of the headers, and you are going to see the drag radials.
"Posers" generally don't drive around on drag radials.
Z06 for me hands down. Especially if they are giving them away

The more I read about the LS7, the more worried I am about it. However, I would still probably get the Z06 - with extended warranty - just in case

Given to me? Give me the Z. I'll keep my coupe for top off driving also.
Best of both worlds.
GotVette? when is my Z coming? Mighty nice of you.

Let me throw another thing in here. You could have either one, but, you'd have to give you're current vette up.
