Default New to these forums and wanting to buy a C6

I have been looking the the C6's for 3 years. Finally, I have decided to pull the trigger and buy one! So excited. This car is really a summer car and weekend toy.

I have my loan in place from our bank with a great rate. 38-40 grand is what I want to spend out the door. I am looking for an 05-07 coupe, automatic. Prefered 3LT like it but not critical. Looking for one from a franchised dealer (loan requirements) in Colorado.

I have done my homework and looked on here, edmonds, and Kelly Blue Book.

My husband and I went to 3 Colorado Chevy dealerships yesterday.
The first one had nothing and since they had 10 08s on the lot, they told me they wouldn't look for a used one to bring in.
The second dealer told me that the Z06 is the only why to go after I told him I really wanted an AUTO.
The third on was the WORST. They and I quote, told me that if I didn't have over 50 grand to spend. I couldn't afford to own a vet and I should look at a less expensive car like a used Colbalt.

Is that really right? Is this how I should expect to be treated when trying to buy a Corvette?

You guys seem to really know your stuff. Is 38 to 40 grand not enough to buy an 05-07 coupe?

Thank for listening to my rant and for any advice?

You have enough. To give you an example, I have an 05 fully loaded auto for sale for $35K. When you deal with dealers, you will sometimes come up with asinine answers like you got. What you may have to do is buy either from the forum here or E-Bay.

Good luck.

You should easily be able to buy a used Vette in that price range. Good luck.

Have you considered looking for a new '07? I don't know how far you are willing to travel but it may be worth your time to check out what '07's are around. Discounts are usually steep.

You can use this site, just go down the page to "find 2007 corvettes":
http://jeffhardy.com/lookupvette.php

Good luck.

A new '07 might be the way to go with the 5 yr/100,000 warranty. I would seriously consider getting the options that you really want. You'll feel so good about it. I think the 3LT, NPP, A6, Z51 are very worthwhile options.

Do the best deal you can and let me know what it is. If it isn't any better than a GM supplier discount let me know and I will get you an authorization number for the discount. You can apply that to whatever incentives are available in your region.

BTW...GMAC is currently offering 0% financing or $2,000 cash back on '07's. You could apply this to your supplier discount or whatever deal the dealer offers. I hope your bank's "great rate" is 0%.

I would check the forum dealer's inventory first. $40k should be able to get you a 3LT 07 without much of a problem. It sounds like the second two dealers you looked at are real jerks. I wanted an auto also due to a hip problem. As much as I would love the Z06, no car is worth popping pain pills.

Another option might be to look at 08s in a month or two. There are A LOT of 2007s and 2008s new out there right now. I was worried about buying from an out-of-state dealer but Tim from Boardwalk made it so easy I would definitely do it again.

Used 07 Vette should be in the 30s in my opinion. A lot of dealers are offering $10-15k discounts off new 07s now.

Do as philies sez; call the forum dealers first. You are being treated like far too many Chev dealers treat Corvette buyers; so, don't be surprised.

If you want a deal, and want a good person to deal with, you may have to go a few extra miles. A lotta few...

Without knowing from your profile, I'll take a wild guess that you're in Colorado. Call Tim at Boardwalk, Rick in Wisconsin and Rick in Dearborn. Those three are a good start for you.

Thanks for all the great advice!

I have to have an auto because I broke my hip in several places in the Army. Manuals kill that hip. So, I can relate, Phil!

You guys are wonderful.

Thanks, the search continues! One of the issues is that dealers in Colorado think that their 3LT 05 vets with 24,xxx miles on them are worth 43 Grand!

A local just bought an 1LT '08 Z51, NPP NEW from a Forum Dealer delivered to an Austin Dealer. $42,500 before taxes and local delivery. Automatic would add $1,038 Invoice.

I noticed you are in Northern Colorado. Did you look in Fort Collins. I think they have a 07 lt3 used. Hope you find the car you are looking for. By the way nice screen name.

If you didn't have to go through a dealer, there's several great cars in your price range in the forums "C6 for sale" section.

Carl here formerly of Boardwalk, I happen to live in Greeley and I can tell you that the Chevy dealers in the area are nuts. Call Tim at Boardwalk, I have another customer of mine working on getting one from Tim. If you need any help come and see me I am the New Car Manager at Weld County Garage.

I agree that a new leftover 07 or in a few months a new leftover 08 3lt auto coupe might be a really viable alternative. Imho an 05 3lt auto loaded coupe in excellent condition with relatively low mileage( the 05's have a 4speed older technology auto without paddle shifters) should be in the low 30 thousand dollar range, an 06(with the later technology 6 speed paddle shifting auto) around 33 to 35, an 07 36 to 38, & an 08 40 to 42 thousand.(You can pick up a new loaded 08 listing at around 58 thousand, for around 50 thousand before tax & license from some of the excellent forum dealers).
There are some great used cars listed for sale on the forum that are realistically priced(not all of course) with some desirable mods that might interest you(even though the mods may have cost the seller a bundle, they usually are not worth much on resale, so the buyer can do well in that regard).
This forum is a great resource for help in making your vette experience a fun one & there are lots of us fellow vette enthusiasts(nuts) to give different viewpoints on just about anything concerning vettes.

Good luck on your search. You should be able to find something below the range you listed.

And um, GO Broncos!

Or grab hubby and jump on Frontier to Phoenix . . . there are a boatload of good cars- rarely if ever exposed to even rain let alone snow- that you can find in that price range and you can drive it home !
