i haven't found any 2008 c6 corvettes that will play mp3 discs properly. the random feature, and number files are mixed up. also will not indentify proper numbers to the tracks name.

Incorrect numbers on the tracks is a problem with file names longer than 25 characters + ".mp3" (29 characters total). I know, the manual says 32 is OK. Take my word for it, the limit is 29 for consistent operation. The random feature isn't going to work right with VBR encoding. I know, the manual says VBR is OK. It isn't. They play but they are flaky.
I'm not sure what you mean when you say number files are mixed up.
Rules to make "good" MP3 discs:
1. 29 character file names.
2. No VBR.
3. ID3 version 1.0 or 1.1 tags and not the version 2.x tags everyone else uses.
4. A burning program that actually makes MP3 discs and not data discs. Nero and ITunes seem to work.
5. Use folders so that there are no more than a dozen or so files in each folder and a dozen or so folders.
Helpful free programs:
ID3TagIt to tag the files and AF5 to trim the file names.

Plays no problem. I've burned 5 entire albums onto one disk with room for much more left. I did have an issue with the display missing data in car on some songs. I was able to fix this.
On your computer bring up the file for each song/icon. Right click on it, Choose properties, Choose Summary. You will see areas for song number, Album name, song name, artist etc. If any of these fields are blank they will also be blank on your car stereo. Click on each item and type in the info. Have to do it with each song or file icon. Most files will be filled out but double check.
Burned a new disc and now my car stereo displays and scrolls proper info.

I have an 08 with NAV and it plays mp3s perfectly. I just fallow what's below.
Using an MP3
MP3 Format
When creating an MP3 disc, the following is a list
of guidelines. If the customer does not follow
these guidelines when recording a CD-R(W), the
CD may not play.
• ID3 tag information is displayed by the radio if
it is available. The radio supports ID3 tag
information v1.0 or v1.1. The radio will display
a filename, song name, artist name, album
name, and directory name.
• Maximum 32 characters, including spaces, in
a file or folder name.
• Maximum number of folders is 500 with
500 files with a maximum hierarchy of
eight folders. It is recommended to keep the
depth of folders to a minimum in order to keep
down the complexity and confusion in trying
to locate a particular folder during playback.
• Create a folder structure that makes it easy to
find songs while driving. Organize songs by
albums using one folder for each album. Each
folder or album should contain 18 songs
or less.
• The files can be recorded on a CD-R or
CD-RW with a maximum capacity of 700MB.
• DVD with MP3 are not playable on this system.
• The radio will not play a mixed mode CD-R/
RW, a disc recorded with both *.cda and
*.mp3 files.
• The player will support a disc with multiple
sessions, but it is not required that the disc be
finalized. It is recommended to record the disc
all at once.
• Recording format mode 2 or mode 2XA with
Romeo or Joliet file system is not supported
with this player.
• All applicable Mode 1 recording formats are
supported.
• MPEG 2.5 is not supported with this player. File
formats MPEG 1 and MPEG 2 with all bit rates
(including variable) except less than 16kbps are
supported with this player.
• Long files or folder names or a combination of a
large number of files and folders may cause the
player to be unable to play up to the maximum
number of files or folders or affect the reading
speed and time to play.

I have also found most burning programs put the files in alphabetical order. So when I want to keep the songs on an album in order I start the file names with a number. Like 01 XXXXXXX.mp3 02 XXXXXX.mp3 and so on. Then they stay numerically. Here's how they show on the screen.

My '08 2LT single disc unit plays MP3s just great. I used Roxio's Burner suite and chose "Jukebox" as the type of disc I wanted. I used the best quality settings so there are fewer than "hundreds" of cuts on a CD, but the quality is great. The random feature works great too and that's about all I use. Between the MP3s & XM, I almost never plug in my MP3 player to the convenient input jack.

I burn all of my car CD's from MP3's on my computer & don't have any problems.
I usually place individual albums into separate folders on the MP3 CD.
I may have 5 or 6 albums on a typical disc.
That way I can listen to just a specific album, or listen to all of the songs randomly from all the albums.
The 6-disc changer plays them perfectly.
The random play features work just fine.

After experimenting quite a bit, I agree with Al, shortening the file name fixed most of my problem. I also noticed that when choosing a track to play, the screen shows the actual file names of the songs in the folder, but when its actually playing the song you chose, it displays the ID3 tag, and there, the name can be longer. Hope this helps...

Mine plays... but when I go to "Track select" and try to change folders, the music starts skipping and it takes SEVERAL minutes for it to respond and go up to the artists folder in the hierarchy.

I think this indicates that the unit is having trouble reading the disc. You might try a different brand of blank disc, and for sure don't use those discs that are in all kinds of colors.

I guess I'll try some cheaper ones and see if that works...

I find that my player spends less time looking for tracks when I use a Sony CD-RW (green package, WalMart $1 each.) So thats where I am.

I'm having the same problems. Do a search. I have yet to do it, but I've been told it has to do with the length of the file/folder names, or the characters used. I'm too lazy to figure it out, as "most" of my songs play.
The 2005 was perfect.
