Generation 8.0 OnStar Upgrades for 2005-2008 models?
After GM released all this info on the various 2009 model years I've come to the conclusion that the Bluetooth system is really a functionality of the Generation 8.0 OnStar Module (the VCIM).
The question becomes, can one upgrade the OnStar module in a vehicle? Have dealers done this before? The second question is the Corvette seems to have specific Steering Wheel controls added that many other cars don't.
Once the 2009 service manuals come out to dealers I am sure they could see what needs to be done for that part of the upgrade. But the big question is, would they do it?

Curious if anyone found out the answer to this. Would like to get the bluetooth added, and trying to figure out the best way to do it. I installed a Parrot kit that was relatively inexpensive and works well, so thinking that is probably the best answer. However, about to pick up an 08 Yukon that I would like to see if the upgrade is possible.

I agree. I think there is a way to upgrade. We just have to wait and see. That is the only option I would like to have that the '09 come with. It is very handy especially with the cell phone law in California.

Folks that I have talked to say that you won't see an upgrade path to the Gen 8 Onstar. You also won't see an upgrade path to the Bluetooth that is in the 2009 cars. There are specific hardware and software changes that are not an easy change - again, as I've been told.

I just bought a Jabra SP700 for my C6--works great!
I have an STS with Bluetooth integrated into the NAV, and it works excellent. My Mazda CX-9 also has Bluetooth that is integrated into the stereo, but not NAV. I like the CX-9 interface better than the STS.
The nice thing about Mazda is they have a dedicated Bluetooth support center--years ahead of Cadillac support.
