I've got nearly 2000 miles and only once has my CAGS ever kicked in. I'm averaging about 23-24 in mixed/spirited driving...a pleasant surprise for sure!

I get about 14-15 around town. Too much stop & go, and toe tapping the throttle to feel the front end come up a bit.

That thing your mashing with your right foot does that.

I'm the same way. Bad mileage is so much fun.

Don't feel bad. You are correct - the others are wrong. There are ways to drive these cars, still pretty much respecting speed limits, but taking advantage of its stunning acceleration and handling performance. However... most Vettes I see are just boulevard riders - they might as well gotten an Aveo and plaster it with C6 body panels, for looks only.
