Does the instrument pod surround have to come out to install these? I am not sure how those pieces come off/install.

He sells an overlay- existing part stays on, as well as the replacement surround- part comes off.

I bought the overlay.

No, it's overlay application. You just put small amount of glue and then slide it right in. That's it.

You can use a pc of masking tape to help holding the carbon part in place while the glue is curing.

Glue? Not so good if you decide you don't want the look anymore.

Questions:
Is this CF an "exact" match to the "stock" CF on the '08 center counsel? With the overlay for the new parts, does it add lots of extra thickness to the dash parts that it is obvious that they are "add-ons"? Just have to know before taking the plunge.

I have the wood ones on my 05 DSOM. It doesn't add much thickness. The only real differance is the buttons are more flush with the lip. Looks good to me. One note, while the IP does not need to be reomoved, it makes it easier if the top is pulled loose for better access / grip when installing. This is how I did it.

You will not be disapointed by the craftsmanship or quality of APIS parts.

Please do. I'm anxious to see how closely these match the 2008 center surround.

Think egg shell- that is about the thickness of the overlay.

When you look at it that way, you make a good point.

Same concern. Pics look a little blue in a couple but grey in the others. Hopefully it is a close match. I've often thought that GM should have made those two pieces to match the console. Anymore parts, I dont know but these 2 definitely.

If you consider to remove them in the future, then you better use the double sides tape and without applying the 3M promoter so it won't have residual chemicals.

Our 08 carbon has PERFECT MATCH to factory's carbon. We have one customer who had installed the parts today and he sent me an email saying our quality is awesome and our carbon has perfect match. Probably he will post some pictures to forum shortly. (his name is Warren McBride, but I don't know his screen name. If anybody knows him please ask him to post some pictures)

It is the flash light that causes the color variation.

Here is the other picture from different angle & distance. You can see the difference.

The color is absolutely the same for any parts.

Thanks for your nice comment.

The thickness of 08 carbon is even much thinner than the Lamination Burlwood. It's so thin that you won't even know it's overlay once it's mounted.

Some customers who had purchased the color matching Spoke Cap had posted some reports before about the thickness issue. They all agree that you almost won't see the thickness.
