Default Help with 08 power top

Trying to drop the top today for first time-no go!
Trunk partition is in place, header is released, motor running, windows open automatically, push bottom of switch and I hear electric motor noises but no movement of top. Only DIC message is "top not secured"
Any tips on this?

Not being a smart *** but are you pushing the up part of button or the down side? What I'm getting at is the message is for when top is going up and not fastened

2 things you can check:

Make sure the two plastic snaps on the trunk partition are fully snapped closed. There is a squat switch behind the passenger side snap which I'm guessing tells the car computer if the trunk partition is not in place. The swith is depressed when the partition is snapped in place.

You can also check if the hydraulic pressure relief valve is fully closed. That's the allen bolt on the pump behind the passenger seat. See owner's manual p. 2-74.

Good luck.

The logic behind several control functions is bizarre in my opinion. On mine, you push the top of the switch to put it down.

Make sure your trunk lid is fully closed as well. Not 100% sure, but I believe the system will not let you lower or raise the vert top if it thinks the trunk lid is open.

Tried to find the squat switch for that but no joy... Anyone else find it?? Probably part of the trunk lid latch mechanism.

Make sure that you push the switch and hold it until the top is down completely = wait for the beep.

Also try putting it in park (if automatic) and keep your foot on the brake.

Check the release valve behind the pass seat. It might not be closed all the way. If you're not sure where it is, check the manual. Use the allen wrench that came with the car.

In case you have trouble finding the release valve:

Same here. - OOPS I WAS WRONG (1st time for everything ) Beenawhile since I put the top down. See copy from op man below

Did you try pushing the top of the button?

Lowering the Power Convertible Top
1. Park on a level surface and set the parking brake.
The vehicle must be running or in ACC. Shift an
automatic transmission into PARK (P). Shift a
manual transmission into NEUTRAL.
2. Make sure the trunk is closed and that the trunk
partition in the rear storage area is in the fastened,
upright position, and that no objects are forward
of the divider.
3. Release the convertible top front latch, located
above the inside rearview mirror, by pulling and
turning it clockwise toward the driver’s door.
The windows will automatically lower.
4. Push and hold the
bottom of the power
convertible top button,
located to the left of the
steering wheel, on the
instrument panel.
The windows will automatically lower and the convertible
top will lower into the rear of the vehicle. A chime will
sound when the convertible top has lowered completely.

If the radio is on the sound may be muted for a
brief time.
If the convertible top is operated multiple times, the
engine should be running to prevent drain on the
vehicle’s battery. Under certain conditions, the Driver
Information Center (DIC) may display a message
regarding the power convertible top. See DIC Warnings
and Messages on page 3-53 for more information.

TOP NOT SECURE: This message displays and a
chime sounds when the power convertible top button is
released before the top open or close operation is
complete or if the top is closed without the header latch
engaged. Press and hold the convertible top button
to fully open or close the top, and make sure that the
header latch is engaged after the top is closed.

I was watching the DVD today and they mention you need to "push up" the top at the latch position after unlatching; this is not mentioned in the manual.

I know, let's do a survey to see how many people push the bottom of the switch to lower the top, and how many push the top of the switch to lower the top, and vice versa for raising the top.

This is very important or the top will not open.

I have to "push-up" the top once I release it maybe a couple inches or so, then it will start to lift.
