Default Why has no one invented....

It seems with all the products and technology today that someone would have invented a product that would repell brake dust. I can't believe everytime I take my vette out, that I have to wipe down my chrome wheels. Seems like you could make Millions with a brake dust repellent. Something to keep the dust from sticking to the wheels.

believe me, if it could be invented, it would have been. brake dust has been around on the Mercedes since the early 1970s. that makes this a 30+ year problem. same with BMWs, too. the only good thing is most Corvette owners take better care of their wheels so the dust doesn't stay on long enough to damage the wheel which it will do.

How about disposable rims. When they get dirty with brake-dust, you simply discard them and replace.

It amazes me how many cars (non Vettes) I see where the front rims are gray and the back ones are silver. Don't these people ever wash their cars? (which should include the wheels)

On the 2005s the old pads were replaced for free under a recall because of terrible squeaking. They stopped doing that quickly and now say the squeak is normal. Guess it cost GM too much.

As in disposable rim covers.... sounds like a good idea they would have to be air tight, clear and somewhat protective heavy grade molded plastic.
Hmm,...

BMW's gather brake dust a LOT quicker than vettes, well atleast from my experience. I've had a couple BMW's before my vette and the BMW's rims would be practically black after a couple of days driving (I commute around 70 miles per day). In fact, my last black BMW I would clean one day, 2 days later the body of the car is still very clean but the rims are many shades darker. However, on the vette, I clean the car probably every week and the rims have barely any brake dust.

what cave have you been living in ? michelin makes a great product that i have utilized on my caddy. what's the name on the can you say? "BRAKE DUST REPELLENT"! comes in a blue 15 oz. spray can and is quite effective. directions: 1) spray a light even coat on a clean, dry wheel. 2) allow foam to break down for approx. 15 seconds. 3) wipe dry with a clean, dry cloth. DONE. www.petroferm.com (there are others also)

I use Eagle One on my chrome rims. Brake dust is not a problem. Don't get me wrong, there is brake dust but not anywhere near what there had been before using it.

I tried those snake oil products,as a matter of fact on our ram work truck we tried many of those so called BRAKE DUST REPELLENTS....no great results at all...waste of money....the trucks do carry a heavy load with alot more work on the brakes. What I mean is some type of a anti-static effect.
