2007 Z06 motor blew with 6000 miles..Help
Hello Everyone,
Was driving down the road in 3rd gear, around 40 MPH....Engine stalled.
Pulled over, hanging on the edge of the road and ditch.....Tried to crank the car, finailly started, running ruff, went 200 feet, car stalled again and I coasted into a subdivision.
Had it towed to Maxie Price in Atlanta, said the valve spring broke and the keeper on the rocker dropped the valve into the cylinder....They replace it with a Long Block.
Cheverolet/GM said that is all they are going to do....I have asked them for demished value, trade assistance, or a comparable car.
Any ideas on my next step......how would you feel about the car as far as value....not the orginial engine.
Any thoughts....ideas...any appraisers out there....
Thanks in advance,
Ben
Thanks guys for all your input....yes, the car is bone stock, yes, I'm taking a deep breath.....It's the thought of all the parts that were taken off, the hood, being pulled up on the flatbed.....but, I guess my main concern is......two comparable cars for sale, same options, same price, same miles (say 10K), one had a new engine at 6K..... which one would you buy?
Thank for any input....
Ben

Unfortunately, that's all you're going to get. Ask me how I know.
GM hasn't lost market share by accident.

That is what you are owed... the component failed and your warranty coveres a new one.
You don't get diminished value as new oem parts are being used to replace the defective unit.
Take a deep breath and realize that it will be fine, it will be the same car.

Ask them for a GMPP. Sometimes they give those away to people that have had major problems. An extended warranty would help at resale time, they are transferable.

From a warranty sense your vehicle has been returned to it's condition (actually better since you are starting over with a new long block and internals) prior to your incident. That's a reasonable expectation on their part and should be on yours also. You're lucky there wasn't finger pointing and denial of responsibility.

I take it your car is relatively stock. If you were to have installed a different cam, your results might have been different. There are no "matching numbers" anymore so there is no "diminished value."

If you still own the car in 2038 it might make a difference if the original engine isn't in the car. However, if you have the paperwork showing the factory replacement under warranty it shouldn't hurt the value even then. If you sell the car in 10 years nobody will care.

Long block means he gets an entire new engine, heads and all. Seems the Z motor has been having valvetrain problems as this is not the first to report this. The other guy was unlucky as the dealership said he was abusing his car and cancelled his warranty.
Be happy you got the problem taken care of with a new engine, had it not been for warranty you would be looking at around $15K for the dropped valve.

long block means a new block w/internals as well as new heads--usually comes as an assembly with the heads torqued. They will reuse the original intake manifold and all other external parts.
a short block is the same deal minus the heads.....
edit...guess I was a little slow with my typing.....

ah, boy... ouch!... man that has got to suck. your car is probably worthless now and i would suggest trading your car for my low mileage 'all original motor' 05 c6. at least you can sell or trade the 05 for a decent price compared to what you'd get for the mismatched Z. why would i do this? because i'm a nice guy and because i like project cars and this would just be another project car to play with... haha
sorry to hear that man. but i personally would be glad they are fixing it. and i wouldnt hesitate to buy one that had been replaced with a new motor. try to work the GMPP angle like someone mentioned. worth a shot.
