Default Goodyear tire problem on 2005 C6

I have 22k miles on my car. I do not drive it hard. There is some usable tread depth on all the tires.

This evening, on my way home, I heard a knocking sound. I got out, saw a 1" belt stuck under the front passenger tire and around the mechanical parts. I could not remove it. I drove slowly home, and the car jerked to the right, HARD. I was able to override it. I hope nothing broke.

I got home, jacked it up and saw the inside tread had peeled off!

This is not cool.

Is there any chance this could be covered by Goodyear? If so, how do I go about it? Call the dealership?

I afraid you are out of luck. Goodyear will only warrenty the tire for the first year and to a certain tread depth. I would get the alignment checked when go in to replace the tire. You could have to aggressive of camber setting.

"Is there any chance this could be covered by Goodyear?"

I'd be surprised if they did pro-rate the tires but go ahead and ask them. You got 22,000 miles on 3 year old runflats and you say there is "some usable tread left." What exactly is "some" usable tread? Some doesn't sound like much. How often do you have the alignment done? Have the tires all worn evenly?

Actually, that sounds like pretty decent wear from what I know about C6 runflats...I'd be happy they lasted that long.

IF the tire was truely in a serviceable condition (even tread depth, etc.) before it failed and wasn't caused by road damage, they will certainly have an interest in it...........I would call them before you throw it out.
Good Luck

I would give them a shot. If they don't help then make a complain to the NHTSA. I wish GM would stop using GY tires.

I called Firestone tonight,
Firehawk Wide Oval runflat $199ea frt/$181ea rear, ~$1069 after road hazard (replace tire), mount, balance, tax

$149 for lifetime alignment

are those good tires, and is that a good deal?

At 22k miles, you've done better than 90% of the people posting here - - -time for new tires . . get out your checkbbook. You got your moneys worth out of the factory set.

but this situation is not a treadwear issue - it is a failure of the tire...that irks me....

I also had 22K miles on my GY SC tires and the inside of the tread was worn. It was from an alignment problem.

I work on these cars everyday and I can tell you this 90% of all the C5/C6 Corvette wear the tires out on the inside. Most owners don't even know this until it is to late. The tires look good but turn the wheel all the way to each side and look. You may be shocked at what you will see.

I think in your case the tire was worn down to the cords and then you had a failure.

I took pics, lots of bands of rubber wrapped around in there...

Goodyear says it is a toe alignment issue.

New tires, GY GS2 EMT all around $1500 installed with alignment, but the front tires have a 4 day wait...so I hope I can get it done friday before the Duke's run...

eta - the firestone tires are on backorder so I went with GY

oh, and FYI - according to 2 GY stores, they do not offer lifetime alignment on Corvettes and one guy mentioned because the toe goes out of alignment very easily on these cars...

Firestone said they had a lifetime alignment for $149...
