Will Chevy ever make a Conv ZO6?
I still don't understand this. I get that the car is stiffer with a roof and handles better but at least give us the option. Hello, you can get a 600hp Viper in Conv or coupe. And another thing, if the ZO6 is the high performance version of the Corvette then why does it have a notch back window (2001-2004- I know to save weight, but for 18 or so pounds who cares) when it only impedes it's top speed (even though top speed is only good for magazine articles and press because what percentage of ZO6 owners top end their cars anyway- very few). Thanks for letting me vent but this still bothers me.

JMO but Z06 vert, no. I would like to see the LS7 as an option for the regular C6 though. That seems doable. Doubt it will ever happen. Oh well.

The C6 Z06 aluminum frame isn't stiff enough to handle being a targa or a convertible. It needs the roof structure in place. The standard C6 steel frame is actually stronger and stiffer than the Z06's-- but that strength comes with a cost of much greater weight. The Z06 frame and non-removeable roof saves 142 pounds over the standard C6 items.
And the C5 Z06 was the hardtop not just for weight savings, but because the hard top was the stiffest C5 platform available, and the Z06 was meant to be a 'pure performance' model, not just an engine option. I had both a targa and a hard top C5... you could feel the difference.

Just think about this a Z06 Auto Conv. We know for certain they could do the auto. It only makes dollars and sense they would make the auto. After all 60-70% of Vettes are sold as automatics. GM needs new blood, new thinking, and a new attitude. Some of the very old GM execs that make the foolish decisions need to be replaced or forced to retire and work as greeters at walmart.
Ask yourself this question. Do you think for 1 minute a Japanese car company would hesitate making a Z06 auto or conv if they knew it would sell? Old fashioned thinking and red tape have all but destroyed GM. Now that Toyota is virtually tied with GM in overall sales maybe some changes will come about.
Now I love this country and would never buy a Japanese car. But, I would love to see GM try a little harder to compete. The ZR1 and the new Malibu are both a step in the right direction, all be it a small step. But we can all hope that some day GM will give their customers what they want.

it's too late, hp game is about over. especially an auto ls7, it's already one of the poorest mpg powerplants chevy sells in a car. we'll be lucky if they build a '09 427 z06 much less putting that motor in a heavy weight vert with auto trans

Just make your own.
I just finished up with helping a customer do this. She took a brand new off the trailer 08 to a shop and we supplied her with everything to do the conversion.
Everything was changed right down to the seat covers and instrument cluster!
If I remember, I'll forward the address to home here and show you the pics.

The Z06 isn't built for the masses. It's a purpose built car with a very targeted audience (hense the low production numbers).
If you are looking for an auto/vert Z06, it isn't the car for you.

If they offered a Z06 A6 I would be ordering one in milliseconds. GM could make a stock pile of cash if they offered the Z06 in either a vert and/or auto. I guess there philosophy of making some money and pleasing the limited Z06 customers trumps satisfying the masses and generating a lot more money .

If GM made a Z06 Convertible....I would buy one in a second. Unfortunately they don't...and probrobly wont.....So, I had to build my own (sort of). Mine doesn't have quite the power or stopping ability. But, it is a good alternative. It is an '08 Z51, MN6, 3lt.

All auto makers have to make compromises. I've owned many Japanese cars (my DD is a M45 Infiniti), and I have a long reputation for hating most of the decisions GM makes. But you have to put yourself in their position. They have to make decisions all the time on what they can and cannot profitably offer. If they offered everything that anyone on this forum wanted, they would go broke.

We must read out of a different book (and I'm pretty sure the F1 teams read out of mine )
An SMG has an auto mode, but it is pure manual. My M3 had the SMG. It was NOT an auto. No one would ever confuse it for an auto, particularly if you went for a small hole in traffic and didn't count on the upshift.
