Hydrogen filled fires

Hydrogen filled fires
My dealer gave a long spiel about the option of having my tires filled with hydrogen. Once done they can never be filled with air. The advantage supposedly is they'll run cooler and the pressure remains constant through temperature variations.. However its about $30 a pop each time you need (H") Has anybody else been approached with this offer. Whats wrong with good old fashioned free air?

Are you sure they are not wanting to fill your tires with Nitrogen?? Never heard of using Hydrogen.
Nitrogen filled tires do what you have been told. They hold pressure longer as the N does not bleed thru the rubber as air does (not as quickly). N filled tires do hold a more consistant pressure as temps change.
The space shuttle as well as NASCAR teams use Nitrogen in the tires. It is a good idea.
Most tire companies offer this service. They charge a one time fee and refills are free and the upfront cost is lower than you have been quoted.
Shop around for this good idea.

Safety Car
You have the wrong gas. I'm sure he talking about nitrogen. If he's using Hydogen, don't go near the car with an open flame. Second thought don't go near the car at all. Static electricity may set off the hydrogen!!!!

It's an aftermarket dealer "opportunity". It won't hurt, but I hardly believe all of the benefits I've heard listed. I more closely relate it to the clean car effect...where if my car is clean I swear it drives smoother and quieter.
Can't hurt but I wouldn't spend that much for it. Oh, and you can mix anything you want in that tire..."air" has nitrogen in it already!! Just more moisture.

The part about once they are filled with nitrogen they can never be filled with 'air' again is .
Most of the benefits of nitrogen accrue to the dealer...to keep you coming into their service department on a regular basis. Save your time and money and stick with regular ol' air.

Nitrogen, not the other stuff
OK fellows, I stand corrected, sorry! Ok so I'm not a chemist, but I do know why the Hindenburg blew up. The U.S. refused to sell helium to the Germans and we had the only supply so they were forced to use hydrogen their only other alternative. Each dirigible had a smoking compartment and you had to light your cancer stick with a red hot wire. No matches, please.

The air we breath is 78% Nitrogen! I don't think you need to worry. In fact, I would worry more about the dealer telling me such unmitigated b.s.
