How to Show Gear No. in DIC?

If your vehicle has the Head-Up Display (HUD)
and you use the Manual Paddle Shift feature, the
gear will display in the HUD, except if your
vehicle has the Navigation system and the HUD is
displaying turn-by-turn guidance information. If
the HUD is displaying turn-by-turn guidance
information, the gear instead displays in the DIC.
See “Manual Paddle Shift” under Automatic
Transmission Operation on page 95 and “Head-Up
Display (HUD)” in the index of the Navigation
system manual for more information.

Sampson are you sure on that, I do believe that when my HUD was up and using the paddles I could see the gears in the HUD but not in the DIC which is in the dash. I need to check but I think you need to go thru your options on the DIC to show the sport mode gear selector position.

The selected gear ALWAYS shows in the hud, not the dic, regardless of what mode the hud is in. The only time the gear numbers show in the dic is if you have nav and it takes over the hud for a few seconds to give you directions for an upcoming turn. As soon as those directions are done the gear display vanishes from the dic and returns to the hud.

Don't think the gears will show on the DIC if you have the HUD. There seems to be info. from other posters that was the case. The gears only show on the HUD when using the paddle shifters in my non-Nav A6.
The owner's manual says the gears will show on the DIC if you don't have the HUD.

I originally posted the question. I have HUD and Nav. with paddles. When I am in the street mode, I want the gears to show in the DIC - and I know it does show in the HUD. I have done this once before but can't repeat showing the gears in DIC. Thanks for all the comments.

2009 Coupe, 3LT (HUD), 6-CD Changer (no NAV)--
From the Owner Manual- When using the Manual Paddle Shift feature while in S (Sport Mode), the current gear will be displayed in the Driver Information (DIC), or the Head-Up Display (HUD), if the vehicle has either of these features.
My car (HUD, no NAV) displays current gear in HUD only, never in DIC.
