Last I heard the gent most probably is waiting on the dealer, GM and the insurance company to sort out what happened, and who if anyone is going to replace/repair/fix the damage.
Doesn't it seem the appropriate, adult' ethical and legal thing to do woul dbe to wait for a result before posting some random nonsense?
I am sometimes really amazed at the direction threads can take on CorvetteForum - One would swear that buying a Corvette required trading in patience and or common sense.

It just seemed like there would be some news after three days at the dealer. Guess I got carried away.

Perhaps Kali's computer also exploded; the whole case being ruptured completely in half. This would explain why it would be difficult for him to contact the forum with a update now and then.

Someone mentioned what other problems have the 08's had? I don't know about all this splitting gas tank business but I can tell you I have 570 miles on my 08 and the gosh dang gas gauge has gone to empty twice with about half an actual tank of gas left! Both times it has done it, it cleared the "service fuel system" message and started functioning again after 10-20 miles of driving.

I'm "Apache" a psycho dog
3/4 of a tank of gas.
I didn't get a good look at it personally unfortunately. The firemen looked at it with a flashlight and described it as ruptured across the entire bottom portion of the tank. The majority of the gasoline was leaking out of the driver side directly under the fuel filler and about 5 inches back. I plan on snapping pictures tomorrow morning when it arrives at the dealership. Unfortunately my local dealership does not have a night drop off so the car is sitting in a tow lot for the night.

Have patience. The situation is exactly as RC45 has described. It will be a few more days before I can post anything of any value.
You miss posting a will get back to you soon comment one evening and you would think I walked away for 6 months.

I'm willing to guess that the dealer is probably trying to understand exactly what happened therefore if this is a one-time bad deal or if there is a larger issue...diagnosing a cause is usually the hardest part of any failure. Give them time.

Burning Brakes
There have been documented (film from security cameras at gas stations) incidents of static causing fires while people are filling up. Most of the fires involved plastic bed liners, plastic coolers, plastic gas cans and other things that generate static. The Corvette has a lot of plastic.
It was your lucky day.
Good Luck!

If GM buys the car back as a Buyback we might not hear about this again. He will not be able to post anything relating to the car for legal reasons. It is a condition of the buyback. This happens most of the time with lemons and voluntary buybacks.

I think he said he is waiting to hear back from GM in one post?

Update
Well, the ordeal is comming to a close so it is time to take stock of the situation. It has been a very stressful week so I apologize for not getting back sooner.
First, the tank did not rupture on its own. Two puncture holes were discovered on the bottom of the gas tank. These two puncture holes were the only damage on the bottom of the car when the tow truck arrived. Not a scratch anywhere else on the undercarriage which is very odd.

The dealer of course immediately stated this was an insurance issue. GM of course stated they would go with the dealers opinion. Neither Dealer nor GM could come up with a viable reason for such an odd hit. Fair enough, but it then took 4 days for an agent to come out. The agent has essentially said puncture holes will be covered by collision insurance no matter what caused them. The tank and shield both need to be replaced. At this time the dealer is stating the tanks are on backorder so I will try to work my way around this issue. I have asked the dealer to show me the tank before it is discarded because at this time no one has seen under the cover.
During the insurance inspection it was discovered that the front of my car was damaged sometime during the movement to the dealership. There are scratches all over the bottom of the spoiler. Unfortunately the typical finger pointing occurred (dealer, tow truck company, myself). After some discussion the tow truck operator agreed to give me most of the deductable. Rather then play he said she said I have accepted that agreement.
Which brings me to insurance. Since the front is considered a seperate incident I am being charged 2 deductables. 750 out of pocket.
Needless to say this whole experience has not been positive. 631 miles on the car.
