Come to Arizona...no front plate requirement here. They used to require front and rear plates and they still issue you two plates but so far so good. No guaranty for the future though.
Good luck with that.
I was told by my California dealer that to be in compliance the front plate has to be visible while standing in the front of the car. Therefore, I carry my front plate on the passenger seat and if stopped for anything I flip the front plate up to the dashboard thereby being in compliance with the law. That may be bending the law, but I am legally correct. Any comment on this?

My wife is an art major, and her artist friend asked her this question. Now I know many of the specs of the car, but I guess this bit of trivia had escaped my need to know radar.
I know it was probably a team of designers, but usually there is one or two that come up to the forefront and get credited for this or that. So, does anyone know who gets that tribute for the C6 shape?

a lot of the shape of the C-6 was asked for by the corvette race team. the racing assoc. told corvette the race car had to look like the street car or no go. that is why you got the open grill because the race car needed more cooling and the ZO-6 got the 427 because that is what they ran in the C-6R.

Let's think about recent Corvettes that had a special spot for the front plate... all looked like crap: the C3s from the 80's, and the C5s with plates up there looked like trash too. Really old chrome bumper cars looked ok, but that's it. Just because the C5 had a fancy little holder doesn't mean it looked good...

While Tom Peters was the Chief Designer and completed the first sketches of what resembled the final shape, a host of designers and engineers contributed to the final design of the exterior of the C6. Other prominent folks from the GM Corvette Team are Tom Froling GM's Aerodynamist, Kirk Bennion (exterior and aerodynamic input) and Eric Clough (interior).
Jeff Gale is the designer that modeled the final 3D model that most of the exterior is based on in 2000.
Be happy with what we got, if you get a look at some of the styling that was in the running, we definitely got the best of the bunch.
If you are interested in finding out more, there is an great section on the design process in the book Corvette C6 by Phil Berg.

I'm guessing, and I'm only guessing, that the C6 coupe coachwork is by Carrozzeria Zagato of Fiat Abarth Zagato 750cc double-bubble coupe fame. Note the roof bubbles on the C6 coupe.
Front plate? We don't need no steeeeenking front plate in NM.

Thanks for the post.
Hard to believe that an innocent question about a beautiful car can degenerate into a trash-talking license plate fiasco in two posts.

It also says you can't have a clear coating or other cover over the plate, so it can't go behind the windshield.

Just get a removable plate bracket and hope for the best.
For inspections, I drive to the place, slap it on, get inspected, then take it off right there. 0.5 hours per year of ugly front plate.
