If you look on the internet, you can find for your model, what each number or letter in the VIN represents.
From the Internet: How to read VIN number?
VIN number consists of 17 characters separated in four sections.
The first three characters shall uniquely identify the manufacturer, make and type of vehicle :
First number Identifies the country in which the vehicle was manufactured:
USA (1 or 4), Canada (2), Mexico (3), Germany (W), Japan (J), Italy (Z), Korea (K), England (S)...
Second character specifies the manufacturer:
Audi (A), BMW (B), Buick (4), Cadillac (6), Chevrolet (1), Chrysler (C), Dodge (B), Ford (F), GM Canada (7), General Motors (G), Honda (H), Jaguar (A), Lincoln (L), Mercedes Benz (D), Mercury (M), Nissan (N), Oldsmobile (3), Pontiac (2or5), Plymouth (P), Toyota (T), VW (V), Volvo(V)...
Third VIN character indicates the vehicle type or manufacturing division.
...
...
Fourth through eighth vehicle identification number digit reveals the vehicle features such as body style, engine type, model, series,...
...
...
The digit is a VIN accuracy check digit, verifying the previous VIN numbers.
Tenth VIN character tells the model year. 1988 (J), 1989 (K), 1990 (L), 1991 (M), 1992 (N), 1993 (P), 1994 (R), 1995 (S), 1996 (T), 199 7(V), 1998 (W), 1999 (X), 2000 (Y)------2001(1), 2002 (2), 2003 (3), 2004 (4), 2005 (5).
Eleventh digit reveals the assembly plant for the vehicle.
through 17. VIN number digits indicate the sequence of the vehicle for production as it rolled of the manufacturers assembly line. This five digit serial number starts at 000001 at the beginning of every model year.

The VIN for my 2008 Z06 starts out 1G1YY....... I'm pretty sure I didn't get cheated on the engine or many of the other Z06 parts since I watched them build it, but they could have fooled me.
I suspect some of what you have listed changes from year to year. In the old days there used to be a number of pages in the paper Chevrolet parts books that showed the meaning of the VIN positions for the years close to the publication of the book – a separate page for each car line for each year. Now that all that is on-line I suspect the VIN information is also there, but one has to work for a dealer or Chevrolet to get to that information.

So - my 2005 last 5 digits are 10449. Does that mean it was the 449th built?

Everyone, thanks for the help. Ray
