Mine does this too.. Just drive slow and easy until the fluid warms up. I usually skip 2nd and go right to 3rd. You can also double clutch until it warms up.
I plan to change fluids in the near future.

Yep, it happens on mine, too. Kinda frustrating. Once it warms up, though, it shifts smoothly. Is there a better transmission fluid out there than what comes stock with the vehicle?

Are you releasing the clutch a bit prematurely? Wait until you have the shifter fully in its next sequential gear before you start releasing the clutch.

I don't know where you are located but in colder climates, like New England where I am, you really need to be gentle with the transmissions until the oil is warmed up. This is especially noticable in lower gears and even more pronounced in the Z51 which I have.

I have it from 1 to 2, and 2 to 3. Once the car warms up eveything returns to normal. I had this problem with the 05' (2-3 shift) and changing the trannie fluid didn't seem to help.

Not that going-to different fluid wouldn't help but because he shouldn't need to do this. I put Royal Purple in my transmission but not because of any problems...I just wanted to.
A new 2008 with the supposedly vastly improved transmission should not grind. Take it to the dealership and have them fix it!

Mine doesn't grind, but it is notchy and rough on the 1-2 and 2-3 when totally cold. Based on forum comments, I just double clutch these shifts until the tranny starts warming up (doesn't take too long). Everything is smooth with the double clutch approach.

If indeed the gears are "grinding" as you've described, I'd have to say that something is seriously wrong. "Notchiness" when cold is one thing (no big deal), but actual grinding is not normal.
