DIY Winshield Chip Repair $9.99
I heard a loud "crack" the other night as I was driving the C6 up the freeway. Yesterday morning, there it was- a big old chip in the winshield.
So, after driving around and not being able to find one of those shady "winshield chip repair" places in a parking lot somewhere, I went to Wally World (which I hate), and bought the Fix A Falt Winshield Repair Kit.
The kit:
The crack, as viewed from inside the car- it was a big chip, with a little star around it:
The apparatus on the winshield from outside:
Inside view:
After you remove the apparatus, you put another drop on the winshield, and cover with a small piece of plastic (included):
Let sit in the sun (the application must be done in the shade, per the instructions) for 10 minutes, and scrape the remaining away.
It is not perfect, but even the professional ones I've had done ($40 here in Colorado), left some semblence of imperfection, similar to the results I obtained on my own.
You can see imperfections just on the left edge of the house in front of my driveway. It's about 95% perfect, and I don't think the winshield will crack any further.
I would definitely recommend this product.
Edit- you can go back and add more resin to the chip if the repair is not to your satisfaction. I just did another chip on my other car, and it's 99%, so I'll go back and add a little to the C6 winshield.
Amazing.

Since it was cool in the garage, around 50*F, I used a small amount of heat on the inside of the winshield from the wife's hair dryer after I pressed the resin into the winshield, while the apparatus was in place.

"In honor of jpee"
Seeing as how I've had 3 chips fixed on the same windshield of my DD (not the Vette), most recently this past week and by the same guy, you did a very good job. I commend you. Seriously.
That is one huge hit to the windshield and your pics are really good to exemplify what it was before and after. I think this should be a sticky for those of us so inclined to fix it ourselves.
The only caution is, of course, it may not last. Then again, at least 2 out of the three times, the repair fellow (owner) said to me his repair may not last (ex. last one, he said as he drills down it could just crack right out, the chip was that deep).
Thanks for the tips and pics!!!

I used this same product on my 3 day old car with very much the same damage after returning from BG. Now that I fixed it, I doubt most could find the damage. Get some next time you are in there - does a great job.

Burning Brakes
I've used a similar product that uses an adhesive "doughnut" and a hypodermic type applicator that forced the resin into the chip. I think this one looks easier.

Thank you for taking the time and doing a great write-up.

I've used it on several windshield chips, it does a great job. I don't travel without one of the repair kits in my car. It's saved several windshields for me.
