Front Plate Out of State?
Does anyone know what the rule is for a front plate state vehicle driving in a non-front plate state? I'm looking at getting the removable front plate license holder and am thinking that I may want to remove the front plate if I'm driving in another state. Is that illegal? My guess is that it's a LEO 'mood' issue. What do you know/think?

Gotta run what your state requires. In a one-plate state you aren't going to stand out ... should the LEO turn his attention to you, they have many more resources today (MDTs in-car) to quickly find out ... but that's a real reach ... experienced/professional LEOs won't hook you for that.

Is it illegal? Of course it is. Could you be stopped for it? Possible but unlikely. Could you be cited for it? Always possible but again unlikely.
Few if any LEO's know which States require front plates and which don't. No front plate is just not a very interesting attention getter especially in a non-front plate state. There are sooooo many truly interesting things about people and cars that attract a LEO's attention that front plates are way at the bottom of the list. Out-of-Stater's need to be concerned with moving violations, especially ones that are different than in their home state and they may not be aware of. Good luck.

My comment isn't directed at you, but since I joined this forum, I see much discussion about the front plate....putting it on....taking it off...not putting it on.....if ya need a front plate, just put it on and leave it on.....does everyone really think there are people out there, when they see a Vette, they say, "Man, what a nice Vette....if it just wasn't for that front plate, it would be perfect.".....

Most likely depends on the MOOD. Just be honest and upfront with the LEO.

I have a bracket from I believe it was Shopman that I got in early '05 and it is held on with industrial velcro. Whenever I go on a road trip out of state I remove it as soon as I hit a rest stop out of MN and leave it off until my return. This year I went from MN to Bloomington Gold on to the Corvette Museum and BG plant tour followed by a trip to Vanderbilt University where my son is considering attending. Put on 2,400 miles, most without a front plate, and no issues from LEO of any states. I hate the front plate look, but choose to comply at home just to avoid any hassle.

I don't know what the "rules" are but I was stopped by a Nebraska State Trooper (just outside Lincoln) for (1) no front plate and (2) "extra" window tinting on the front side windows. I'm from California and both of those are violations here and the Nebraska officer reminded me those were the California rules. I don't know about Nebraska's rules. We talked about this in his patrol car however he issued no ticket. He even informed me that the "notice" would not be registered anywhere; no ticket, no warning, no nothing. Just 15 minutes spent parked at the side of the road.
I don't know if I'm thankful for no ticket or annoyed at loosing 15 minutes.

I've been running the new car front window sticker and dealer placard in the rear for over a year - no problems. Keep it clean and they'll never know... providing you don't draw attention to your self.
