155mph was so easy it was spooky!!
My A6 shifts out of 3rd at 129!
I had a chance and safe area to let it out for a short distance and it hit 155 like I was just passing another car. When I lifted off the gas the nose dropped about an inch. The Vette was pulling so hard at 155 it was still carrying the front end high!!
BTW - the wife was with me so I think the Vette would be even quicker with only one person onboard.
GM says 186 and I believe 180+ is very possible. But you will need 3 or 4 miles to get it up there and then slow back down. It's hard to find a place that offers this much "safe" room.

On a track I'ver had my vert up to 150 with the top down helmet on. I was afraid that the top would cause me problems at those speeds so I dropped it.
It got up to 150 in a hurry and definitely had more room to go, but I was really nervous about putting my baby into a barrier if I took it any faster. At those speeds you'd better be a professional driver cause at those speeds you better know what you are doing since stuff happens really quickly with little/no margin for error.

Sounds like people at work are a little bit green with envy. I guess the ones with the beamers have a tough time accepting that they're not "it". You see it in the mirror also (but not for long)!

Chevy advertizing for '05, '06, '07 was 186 MPH for the Z51 6spd. The C6 is aero limited to 186MPH in Z51 gearing. The Z51 5th gear ratio gives the best RPM/HP/Top Speed combo. Automatic and base cars will be slower. The ECM shows a 186MPH limiter due to the Z51 Supercar tire limits.

We need to remember that the amount of horsepower and the advantageous aerodynamics required to get from 160 to 170 MPH, and then from 170 to 180, increases exponentially. Those last few MPH's may take significant horsepower gains to achieve. As I said, my stock 2007 C6 convertible (non-Z51) showed an actual 174 on the HUD which track timing confirmed. I also said it felt like there was a little more left, but that "little more" may have been only 3-5 MPH. I'm sure that a Z51 could hit 180 box-stock. Anything beyond that is pretty much driver & track related, and again remember that the difference between 180 and 185 can be quite a bit as far as the car is concerned, let alone the driver.
Also very good and important comments regarding driving at these elevated speeds, even on the track. Please don't attempt it if you have never done any high-speed or competition driving. Do yourself (and your car, and the rest of us) a big favor and attend one of the excellent schools of high performance driving, such as Skip Barber's or Bob Bondurant's. Barber has five locations around the country, while the Bondurant school is in Phoenix. There are other schools as well, but I highly recommend either of these two. Next time your "significant other" is asking about your birthday or Christmas, this would make a great gift. I guarantee you'll enjoy it, you'll definitely become a better and safer driver, and we'll get the pleasure of having you around a lot longer. Safety Fast!

I've taken my 2006 A6 to the track. It has a Vortech V-2 s/c on it, plus other goodies. My speedo registered 185 mph before I backed it down, and I can tell you that there was more there. At 150, the car was still accelerating like it was only going 20, but the acceleration curve started to flatten around 165-170. And, I had the mirrors pulled in!
Anyone who says the car can't go past 160 is full of sh*t.

160 isn't fast anymore. A Hyndai Sonata V6 will go 145, you need to find a job where you will be working with smarter people.

Drifting
My C6-A6 base model (same gearing as the Z51/A6) shifted out of 4th at 170+ and pulled to 176 before I ran out of room. It was still pulling well and had NO mods at the time.
