Default Tiires Included with Z51 Package

How many miles can we expect to get out of the tires that come with

the Z51 package? Has anyone replaced their tires with low mileage?

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have over 16,000 miles on mine and hope for over 25,000. Make sure the alignment is correct.

Most who've posted here report low mileage, meaning 15K miles on the tires. A series of possibilities exists, however, incl. slight out of alignment from the factory at times, low pressures, hard driving, etc.

I'd think you may be able to get quite a bit more. Don't be put off by the reports, but be like some and definitely watch your tire pressures like a hawk!

My '05 got 11,000 on the rears and 14,000 on the fronts. That was before I got in a group that had monthly vigorous cruises. Never any drag race types standing starts.

Does anybody have a picture of the actual wear bars on a worn out tire???I've never actually seen them and am only guessing that those little bars in between the threads are wear bars! Thanks.
Sorry, not trying to hijack the thread or anything.

Yep, they are the little bars between the tread. I just got my supercar tires for my wide body conversion. I can't believe that much money buys so little tread! You'd think these tires have 30k miles on them already!!

Depending on your driving and maintenance habits, anywhere between 10,000 to 20,000 miles... When they start getting low on tread, you will just be asking for trouble..

I know one customer who pulled 28,000 miles out of a set of tires. But most people seem to get around 15,000. They are pretty soft tires.

I replaced them at 21k although I probably could have eeeked another thousand or two out of them . . .it was getting close.

There are more aggressive drivers on the forum that will get less than 10k out of the rears . . all depends how you drive and watch tire pressures.

Power slides are very helpful for evening out the tire wear, though.

The Z51/Supercar tires are designed for "performance handling." As such, they are basically a "shaved" tire, with (I think) 9/32 instead of the 11/32 of the standard run-flat.

I'm not sure if it's the case with the C6 Z51 package, but the C5 Z06 also had a more agressive camber setting, which made the front tires prone to wear on the insides.

Let me tell you that long before you reach the wear bars, the tires become very dangerous in the rain. The SCs aren't great tires for driving in the rain in the first place, but after they are about half worn out they become very dangerous to drive in rain. The grooves become too shallow to prevent hydroplaning, even at low speeds. It took 40k on my GS2s to get down to where hydroplaning at normal driving speeds became a big issue. It'll be a big issue on the SCs within 10k miles.

Question: if someone WANTS to have good traction in the rain, and even in colder climates (down below 40 and 30 degrees), would you then recommend the Goodyear A/S runflats?

I disagree. My SC's are over half worn out at 14K miles and I've driven them on the highway in the rain, and on winding roads in the rain, and they're fine. Not dangerous. That's not to say that some people won't have worn out SC's that are dangerous, but as a blanket statement that hydroplaning is a big issue at 10K miles is just plain incorrect.
