Default 2008 LS3 vs 2007 M5

Buddy has a 2007 M5 with the 500hp. I have seen reviews that show these cars running mid 12s (12.5-12.8s). Are these times realistic? He said he could beat me hands down, that he has beat some C6 Vette's. I told him mine is a 08 he said he didnt care. I dont think he know that they are a little quicker. Got some yuppies here at work saying he will beat me. Thoughts?

Should be a very even run, he may edge you out though.

When my car was stock against my buddies M6 it was a drivers race - Those cars get out of the hole very well with the SMG - Now with my mods , it aint even close

I'd say you should be even or you may just take him in a 1/4 mile-you will win if running a 1/8 mile. That M5 a pig heavy car at 4,000 pounds with only 383 ft lb of torque. It's drag cof can't be very good either since it looks like a rounded brick.

There is one certain way to find out!

Go run 'em! Post up results, but only if you win.

I would say it would be a drivers race but considering that is a $90K car it should be fast. Just think you could have bought a 3 series to go with your C6 for what he paid.

Just so you know...last time I was at HRP there was a bonestock M5 running 12.1 with just an h or x pipe on it...I forget which.

They are heavy...but they haul ***. It was the most impressive car at the track bar-none for what it was accomplishing.

That would definitely be proof in the pudding. Otherwise, it's all talk and stat's.

I am trying to get him to bet on it. If I do I will coerce him to take 3 people with him that wanna see a race 1st hand and hopefully another 600lbs will make it a win for sure, hahah. Man I am underhanded. I am a decent driver, I have had 60fts of less than 1.9 about 85% of the time. So I am not some scrub by any means, not to mention the temps around here are getting right around high 70s at night. So we will see. He started running around the subject after I said PINKS.

If your racing from a dig to the 1/4 mile I think You will win..
But to me its Roll Racing that takes out alot of "What If's " and by that I mean Traction being an issue etc...
Iam also planning to run my freinds 08 M5 once he gets BMW to fix his damn steering rack issues... lol...
I have a 04 Z though with just a Few Light mods, intake and headers..
Dont underestimate this car , it really starts to move once 3rd gear starts to roll around,....

i have beaten an 2007 m5 by about a length from 30-140 or so when i was stock with my 1lt, so you should be ok but its a drivers race so dont screw up!

Good luck! Are you driving an auto or manual C6 (not sure if it makes a difference, just curious tho)?

So I guess a $130K 760Li should be even faster than a M5 and a
Z06?

I own a 07 M5 and I'll tell you it is a drivers race! It's not hard to mash the pedal and click a paddle to shift. That car has NO TQ but it revs high and really wakes up after 60 Best part is that it seats 5 and has a trunk!

Of course price doesn't mean fast but the premium you paid for an M over a regular 5 series DOES mean it is supposed to be fast. My comment was only meant to demonstrate how much one must spend to get a car as fast as a C6 from another manufacturer. I have a CTS V also which was half the cost of your M5, still seats 5 and has a trunk also, and while not quite as fast has not been in the shop at all unlike my previous 4 BMWs including my current X5 4.4 (wifes) Don't misunderstand me, the M5 is an absolutely fabulous car, but for the price is certainly should be. As far as pulling the paddles, leaving an A6 in S and letting the computer shift IS faster than pulling the paddles.

the m series are all modified...have some minor modifications to your vette and it's over....now if either of you are challenged by a bugatti, just go home....

OK, so we know the stock Vette will give a 500 HP M5 a run for its money.

Now let's make it a "fair race" and put the Bimmer up against the Z06

The 500HP V-10 M5 is a beast, but also a Pig. The best he can run is 12.7 so your '08 will pull ahead.
