As you say, insulation is important and most vender plates do provide insulation. However, even the stock plate without insulation reduces the heat entering the floor (since much of the heat is transmitted by thermal radiation and not convection or conduction). Plate + insulation is the best solution.

Heat is coming from the exhaust under the plate. Most vender plates have a ceramic coating or outer insulated layer and they will reflect and reduce the exhaust heat entering the floor. Some plates are stainless steel which does not conduct heat as well as the stock plate and reflects some thermal radiation. And, you always have some air flow between the plate and torque tube when the car is moving which reduces trapped heat.

I don't know if I have been sleeping under a rock and didn't know this, but when I went to install the heat blanket, I noticed the 08' NPP exhaust uses an X-Pipe rather than the H-Pipe my 05' had-is this new

Yes, all of the 2008 cars now have an X-pipe in place of the old H-pipe.

Simple...

Top down, riding in the evening with wife in the passenger seat and she asked....

"Is the heater on?"

Tunnel heat caught her attention (already had my attention).

I installed the EE insulated plate. Problem solved.

I dun need no steeenkin engineeer to call my attention to an issue. The wife did it with 4 words.

So, Momma is happy. That makes me happy. We both are cooler. I got to do an easy mod while laying on my back.

Would it make sense to go the belt and suspenders approach with a insulated plate and heat blanket?

You can always use the heat to make grilled cheese sandwiches when you are stuck in traffic ... just kidding. It does not get all that hot. Heck, in the winter up north, you might actually like the heat.

I installed the Elite Engineering SS plate with Thermal Abs directly on top of the OEM heat shield. (which is obviously there to hold in heat. )

IMHO it works as advertised----Cooler & Stiffer

Installed the E.E. 1/4 tunnel plate with the thermal ABS "blanket". Not sure if I notice any structural stiffening although haven't been to the Nurburgring to test it, but I definitely notice a reduction in temps in the console area!

Where did you get the Thermal Abs? I just got a 3/8" ceramic coated plate from LAPD but looked at the Thermal Blanket from LG and got instant sticker shock! $419 for a thermal blanket? Seems a little outrageous compared to $214 for a 3/8" thick ceramic coated aluminum plate.

Warm yes - hot no. If you have the AC on you won't notice . Think of it as a HOT CAR & people will assume it's OK

I have a vert with an Elite Tunnel Plate and I did notice that it stiffened up the chassis a bit. I find the heat coming off the firewall to be more of an issue on hot days than any heat coming up through the console.

The warmth never bothers me because the only items I keep in the center console are papers and sunglasses. I never really have drinks in the car when driving so the only thing in the cup holder is the cell phone (a great cell phone holder BTW). Yes, the phone and glasses get warm on long drives, but nothing close to hot where it would be uncomfortable to hold after sitting there for awhile.

Now, if you plan on keeping cold drinks in the cup holder or items in the center console that need to stay cool, it will be a problem.

On the 08 I can tell you it is not steel it is 3/16 aluminum and there is also some insulation installed above the tunnel plate, I don't know if earlier C6 cars have that or not but I saw the insulation and tunnel plate installed on mine Tues during the build

I think most guys are commenting on the 05-07 cars. I can tell you for a fact that on the 08, the tunnel is hot. The center console space under the armrest does not get warm, it gets hot. The center console armrest does not get warm from the sun, I mean it could, but it is warming up from the heat being generated undernieth. Leave a drink in the cupholder and it will be warm fairly quicky as the cupholders get hot. You guys don't want to believe it? Take the center console out as I did this week and drive without it. Put your hand on the bare metal and see how long you want to leave it there.

Its not the end of the world for sure. If you aren't driving 300 miles each day, its not the biggest deal, just a nuisance. The rear hatches heat up uncomfortably as well.

What does this have to do with this thread? I have an oil cooler too and a roasting tunnel, not sure I understand.
