Leather is too hot and sticky
#21
Hi,
Just moved to Phoenix Arizona from Maryland.
And, no, there is no dry heat here in August.
Leather seats seem to heat up from the sun and feel like they might burn my legs when wearing shorts.
Also, after a short drive, the back of my shirt is all sweaty.
What do you guys in hot climates do? Cover the seats? With what?
Thanks for your help.
Jim

Try a windshield sun shade, cover the seat with a towel and you should be okay. Or have them recovered in what ever material you like, sheepskin is a thought.
I like leather, and remember only to well the vinyl seats of the past. Leather is cooler, as for cloth, they get hot too. I grew up in a hot climate, San Antonio Texas, though I live in a moderate one now.
Good luck

Maryland...here's what's happening...
I live in Maryland. It isn't the heat...it's being so close to the politicians who inhabit this area in excess numbers. The only way to really get this effect under control is to drive your Corvette on as many trips out of this area as is possible. What a car! What a country! God Bless America!

A towel works for me. With the majority of the upper end cars now offering ventilated seats, you would think GM would make that available on the corvette. Maybe the C7. My wife and I were on a club cruise today, temp upwards of 100, top off, and she mentions that it would be nice to have the cooled seats like that in her Volvo. I put a Corsa exhaust on the vette because the Volvo's V8 stock exhaust sounded better than the vette's stock exhaust. No way a Volvo is going to sound better than the vette. Now the seats........... GM, are you listening?

It gets mighty hot here in Dallas and my car is a daily driver and sits outside at work. I don't find the leather at all uncomfortable. Maybe the cashmere color helps. Also:
- tint your windows - I have 35% sides, 10% rear;
- use a custom-fit reflective windshield screen;
- park facing west so the late afternoon sun will be on the front window with the sun screen, not the back glass;
- get a window valet and use it to crack open the windows when you park the car;
- use the window valet to fully open the windows as you approach the car - lets out a lot of the heated air.
