Why all the Corvette Hate?
Why is there so much hate for the Corvette out there?
You can drive a $50k-$60k Escalade, Mercedes, BMW, etc, and people don't give it a second thought. Tell them you drive a Corvette ($45k-$50k, much less if used) and a lot of people will suddenly look at you with such disdain -- like you are the most self-indulgent, money-wasting person on the planet.
It can't be just simple ignorance that the Corvette really isnt that expensive in comparison to any other new medium/large car or SUV in the parking lot, or that it gets great gas mileage, better than most any other SUV and at least equal or better than any large sedan.
I've had Corvettes for many years, and its a constant issue... I never mention what I drive unless directly asked -- I just get tired of dealing with the "how could you?" glare, rolling eyes, and "so I guess you're disgustingly rich" attitude. And of course, I'm totally middle-class, far from rich -- I can only afford it because I choose to spend my money on a car instead of most other 'acceptable' hobbies.
I know its best to ignore it, but it just gets old... how do you handle it?

I just bought my first and, even being single and 35, most of what I've gotten is much the same. Suddenly I'm a dirty vile man scrounging for 20-something's. Well, the 20-something part is close, but I'm not dirty or vile!
And most people I talk to are completely ignorant about the price. They think I paid 70-90k for the car. I'm actually a little worried about dates thinking that I have more money than I do... because I don't!!
But in the end, what great problems to have. Every person on this forum has so much to be thankful for... blessed in the best sense.

I have gotten the same reactions too. You know what? Who gives a Sh$t. I worked my butt off for years. My Corvette and Rolex watch (another issue) are my rewards for hard work and success. I get the same wise *** remarks about my two tone Rolex Submariner. People like to ask me what time it is and then say that there $15 Timex has the same time and they saved $7k. When I meet someone with a Ferrari, I am happy for them, not jealous or envious.

People do think that they cost $70K and get 11 miles per gallon. That is very common. Then they think you have money to **** away and you're a snob. Also, that the Vette is impractical and expensive to maintain. You name it.
There's also some jealousy, and of course it's 3 of the 7 deadly sins. Sort of like driving a Porsche. You're too good for us.
That's what's been holding me off for a while. They'll think I'm rich and then expect me to pay for everything. There's a lot of truth to that, sad to say.

not many vettes out here (of any year)..... so i'm a drug dealer or something now....
and yes... i'm put in that gas guzzler category (its gets the best mileage of all my cars)
everyone i talked to were shocked on the price (base about $40K) and just thought that is was a $100K car....
amazing how that Z06 pricing just hangs around for years!!!!
the allocations are small here and the dealer markup is over $10K up to $25K... now that's NUTS!!!!
glad i got mine from a forum dealer.... Rick D @ Les Stanford Chevrolet (gotta get a few plugs once in a while looking to get a C7!!!)

Corvette owners historically have a reputation of being a$$holes, for some reason.
It may go back to a time when Corvettes were the most expensive vehicle that GM made. Which then put the people that were able to afford them into the "upper class".
Now days, Corvettes are priced so a lot more people can afford them so it is not as exclusive. Now the majority of people that buy them are the people that really love them - not for a status thing.

This issue comes up so much on the forum. Bottom line.........
1. People resent you having a car that smokes their car
2. People resent you having a car that makes their car look like crap
3. People resent you having a car that looks like it would be more like driving an F18 than a car, while their car looks like it would resemble driving a school bus.
4. People are jealous.
Corvettes do not blend in. They stand out. They look like race cars. That, for some reason, tends to **** people off. Ain't it great?!!!!

We can Get over it
A lot of people don't understand the passion we have for cars. I raced circle track for years. Spent anywhere from $500 to $1000 a week on it. After 15 years of that. And getting to old to do it. I sold everything and bought a Vette. My 1st one was a C4. Now I have a C6. I really don't get a lot of negative responce. But I live in a place that has turned into a rich area. And you see a bunch of cars that cost more than a Vette around. I have lived here since it wasn't a rich area. So its not that I have a bunch of money.
But I wouldn't let it bother you. They can get over it. I have owned some sort of Hot Rod since I was 16. And don't really care what anyone thinks about it. I own what I own because I love Cars. Not to try to impress people.
And my wife only wishs she got the gas mileage in her CTS that I get in my Vette...........

Out there? Look first to the hating going on IN here. If you have the wrong color (God forbid you have a slightly different shade of blue - you must be girly) or the wrong shape of wheels (what, you in love with Gumby or somthing?) or an exhaust not sactioned by the forum elders (NPP: ) or any of a dozen other variances from the 'ideal' Corvette then you own shyt. People, get a life.
