The 05-07 vettes are excellent cars, they just made upgrades to the 08 because of the new Camaro coming out soon with the LS3 engine, so why not go ahead and put that engine in the vette.

The LS2 Vettes are still awesome cars. The LS3 Vettes do seem to have quite a few changes, more than usual for a mid generation model. (Engine, tranny, steering, wheels, interior trim, colors, standard on star, etc.) For some guys, those changes are not worth a thing. For other guys, those changes are a big deal. If you are not driven to have the new engine and the 30-36 HP gain, and you can find a great deal on an 07 that is equiped exactly as you want it, I would think it would be hard to pass it up.

I was in the same boat between '07s and '08s. Even though I posted a JOKING thread about this already... I am happy with my decision. I ran the numbers and saved $7500 on my '07. Now, for $7500 (plus interest), I can do amazing work to surpass a stock '08 in the hp game. To me, the only thing that would be hard to improve via aftermarket is the steering. A $500 tune will help the shifting of the A6 and thousands left over for exhaust, intake or even FI.
I'm happy with the steering so far. Not quite as precise as my G35 was, but the chassis sticks and pivots with the C6 much better.
Either way... enjoy!

I'm speaking specifically about the forced induction you mention, because exhaust and cold air intake will get you a power gain, but nothing of the order of 390 RWHP.
Forced induction is a different ball game altogether. You do that and forget about taking it in to the dealer for powertrain warranty work under that 100K mile powertrain warranty you have now.

Because people just assume things. And also these are probably people who didnt get a good deal on their 06-07's. The have no idea how much to pay for the car. I orderd my 08 for $800 under invoice.Anybody that buys an 07 instead of an 08 now, is making a bg mistake.

I also expect the C7 will be a significant improvement over the C6 when it comes out, just like the C6 was over the C5. As performance enthusiasts we are fortunate right now that there is somewhat of a horsepower war going on in the auto industry. Performance car manufacturers keep upping the ante and each time a new car comes out or ups the hp others have to raise theirs too.

I TOTALLY AGREE!!! They'd have to lower the price to $4000 below the 08 before I would look at them.

I got a chance to see Modshacks 08 vette. The exhaust simply rocks, the wheels are cool and the polish job is wayyyy better than the 05-07's. If he hurries up with the suspension mods I want a ride. After seeing his I am impressed but I am in no hurry to run off and get one.

But the point is, you could have gotten an 08 for about 6k off of sticker. In the end, the difference is not that much between an 07 and an 08.

"In honor of jpee"
All I read from each year of 2005 to 2007 was how great this vette is. Now that the 2008 comes out, some readings make me think that the 05's to 07's maybe weren't all that great. All the vette mags I read when the C6's came out was how great they were. Now the 2008 comes out and makes me think that the 05-07's were over rated. I have a hard time believing that. I'm thinking of getting a good deal on close out 07', or do I spend a few more $$$ and get a 2008?
Are you asking whether you should buy an '08? Or, are you "thinking of getting a great deal on an '07?"
Unless I'm wrong and you have plenty of dough, the two are mutually exclusive.
IMO, the the first C6s were, and are great cars. Superior in many ways to the generation before.
An improvement (or several) has been made to the '08. Is that surprising? I hope not. If every car mfr. waited until they changed body styles to make major and minor changes, we'd all be the worse off for it.
Is it a better car than prior years' C6s? Yes, but maybe not in a sufficiently dramatic manner for you. Or, maybe it does not make financial sense to you. That's fine, too. You know your wallet best.
Good luck with your choice. The above posts will serve you well in making your decision.

Why wait. It doesn't matter. In 5 yrs (2012), we will look back at the 07s and 08s and they will all be technically outdated and probably worth little on a trade. Each year it will be better and better, imagine a new vette in 20 yrs.

Wonderful contribution, Jimbeaux! I only wish I had written it first!
Personally, I know that I will NEVER realize the potential of my '05, both in steering and acceleration, and I suspect that goes for 98% of the ownership.
I think I will continue to slum it in my old heap until the C7s are one year old.

I agree with you. I will stick to my 06 for now.

I'm sure there is subtle differences, but I've had my 07 for 10 months and can't imagine how they could improve things. The car is awesome and fun to drive. Every day that goes buy there's the potentail for something better to be out there so you just got to buy what you can afford and enjoy with no regrets....

My threshold to "upgrade"
would be no more roof popping and LMB availability. Darn it, I basically eliminated all the creaking.
Mine is basically a DD. Metro commute. Lots of LEOs. Often tired secondary to long work hours. No racing. And to be honest, average driver skill.
If I was wealthier I would get a Z anyway
