Default STOP – Don’t buy a 2007 Corvette – here’s why!

I have sold Corvettes exclusively here at Kerbeck for about 14 years and I don’t ever remember telling someone not to buy a Corvette. I asked my boss if I could make this post and first he told me absolutely not! But, the next day, he called me into his office and said I could tell it like it is, so long as I referenced my post with the words “in my opinion”.

So, here it goes…

IN MY OPINION!

Number 1 – LS3 430 HP engine compared to last year’s LS2 400HP

Sure, the car is expected to be faster with 30 more HP, but when you get behind the wheel and drive the 08, it feels a lot faster and with the new, optional exhaust (adding an additional 6 HP which I will get into in more detail later) it even sounds a lot faster.

Think of it this way…

A 1967 Corvette with 427 400 HP hydraulic cam big block with rear exit exhaust compared to a 67 Vette with solid lifters 427-435 HP with side-mount exhaust. The 400 HP was a great car, but the 435 is legendary!
My comparison may not be realistic, but I am here to tell you the difference in feel and sound between the 07 to an 08 is a big difference – IN MY OPINION!

Number 2 – Completely New 6Spd Manual Transmission

No, it’s not an upgrade, it’s a new and improved tranny! The 2008 trans is better than the 2007 – the throw is shorter, the gate to gate transition is much smoother which both make for a quicker shift – IN MY OPINION!

Number 3 – Automatic Transmission upgrades to the hardware and software

I was told by a reliable source that the new 2008 is the fastest automatic Corvette ever made and after driving it, I believe it! IN MY OPINION, the improvements made by GM to the 08 auto trans made the paddle shifting more responsive and shifts are nearly flawless. Couple the upgraded 08 automatic to the new, optional 2.73 rear ratio (compared to the 07s 2.56 rear ratio which was all you could get) and the 0 to 60 times, I am told, are much improved.

Ladies and Gentleman – we needed a better automatic and GM gave us one. Those GM guys that read this forum are listening and responding, thank you GM!

Number 4 – 2008 gets a new Steering Rack

Whatever changes GM made to the 08 steering rack compared to the 07 rack I don’t know. But, I do know that the new steering definitely improved the feel at lower speeds – IN MY OPINION!

Number 5 – NPP Optional Exhaust, New for 2008

The sweetest sounding additional 6 HP on earth! This is the way a Corvette should sound! I have been told by a reliable source that this new, GM system cannot be fitted to a 2007 or earlier models. I don’t think there is a aftermarket exhaust that can compare! This is no bolt-on, cat-back system The new NPP Exhaust for 08 was designed to go with the LS3 and is tuned and programmed for optimal performance and sound and it comes from the factory on the window sticker it’s documented much like in 1965 when the factory first came out with a little option called N14 Side Mount Exhaust System.

The NPP – IN MY OPINION – sounds better than the Z06 Exhaust. Not louder, just better! The engineers had a few years to tinker with the Z06 exhaust before putting it on the 2008 and they got it right!

6 – Factory Base Price didn’t change much

The 2008 coupe and convertible price only went up about $920 in the base price, but look at what they added: XM Satellite Radio, OnStar and the self-dimming mirrors are all now standard and they dropped the MSRP price of the 3LT package so that a 2008 3LT at MSRP is only about $500 more than a 2007 3LT at MSRP! Actually, that parts not my opinion…it fact!

With the new, LS3 engine and optional exhaust putting out 436 HP, all new 6spd manual trans, improved auto trans, new steering rack, factory sticker prices only up a little, new wheels, new colors and BIG Kerbeck discounts on July and August deliveries the 2008 is the only way to go, IN MY OPINION!

We still have lots of 07s left to sell, but smart money buys the 2008. Of course, that’s JUST MY OPINION!!!

Here's one my local dealer refused to answer:

Assuming the good people at Kerbeck are willing to part with either a 2007 or a similarly equipped 2008 for the same price, and I bring them both back with the same miles, and in the same condition, which will be worth more as a trade-in at this time next year or three years from now?

See ya at Carlisle, Harry?

I consider myself nearly immune to getting a 'sales-job', but I gotta tell you, as a current 2006 owner, you make a lot of sense! $1,000 for a permenant extra 30 HP difference pre-mods is about enough all by iteself, IMHO.

If they would take On Star and XM OUT, I'd pay 'em even more!

I'm not sorry I bought my '07 convertible in April. I've been driving and enjoying it for three months, and when I trade it in on the 2010 I'm sure I'll enjoy the new C7 Corvette that much more. I've driven an '08 equipped almost identically to mine, and it's a little better - but not that much better.

In my opinion.

Default Sorry but this is pure sales propaganda

Seems like a sales ploy to me. So I guess the 05-07 Vettes are now crap with the LS2 and all? There will always be a so called better car and better upgrades and if they did not sell where would that leave the sales person. I buy what I want and need not what I'm told is so called great. I don't care what the HP/TQ and the bag of tricks holds, the new blue sucks (sorry) and so do the wheels in my opinion. So maybe who knows when I get tired of my current ride and decide to upgrade we will just have to see what GM has in stock. Currently it aint it from 05-08.

FWIW I also don't like the new blue or split spokes, but it comes in different colors, and I'll bet an '05/06/07 owner would be glad to swap wheels... could make a pretty cool sleeper... people have told me mine MUST be an '05 because it doesn't have the GM flank badge... uh, yeah, okay.

I concur, there will always be something newer and better. Quite pleased with my 06 and plan on keeping it for some time.

Thanks any ways.

Of course.

(And if it is then 60 HP for $1K, I'd consider it as well.)
