Default Break noise with new ceramic pads??

Hello,
I recently installed gm ceramic pads all around on my 08 z51. When I slow down slowly I get a loud noise(metal on metal I think). I was wondering if the mechanic installed the metal guides wrong.
Does any one have any suggestions on what it might be or how to fix this?? I do not have a lift, just low pro jack.

Thanks for your help in advance.

If the technician did not resurface or scuff up the rotors before putting on the new pads it can cause this. Also, if the pads were not bed in properly, they will squeal as well. In other words, if he slapped the pads on and put it out the door this is the issue.

I'd make sure they were installed correctly but its probably the issues mentioned above.

I just put on my new pads and rotors yesterday that I got from Gene, a long while back. I bedded them correctly and they are good so far. I've not driven far with them so I don't really know yet but so far, they are quiet. I've had them on my '99 for a long time and never any squealing.

In addition to what Gene said, the pads need to be bedded.

Thanks for all the advice so far. Here is whats new.

I went to the auto store and the guy behind the counter told me to buy Squeal Medic. It comes in a spray can to spray on the rotors(goes on silver). Unhappy to say. It didnt work in my application.

Like I said the brakes are brand new and squeak very loud under light breaking. As a reminder I have bedded the breaks already.
I am wondering if anyone else knows may be happening. Could they have been installed incorrectly? Should I take off the wheels and look for anything in particular?

Thanks for the help!

Were the rotors resurfaced?

Post a photo of the rotors.

I had mine professionally installed. Took it back to have him try again and still they sqealed for thousands of miles. The best advice I can give you is to stop aggressively, that seems to help along the way.

Vette brake squeal sucks. I had a nightmare of a time getting rid of it on my 05. Tried bedding the brakes, sanding the rotors, putting on the disc brake quiet, and dissasembling/assembling the ceramic brake pad setup about a million times. Finally, realized i hadnt put the front anti-chatter brackets in and it went away.

I am going to take off the wheels this weekend and take a look. What are the front anti-chatter brackets? Where are they located on the brakes and what do they look like?

Thanks

I think he's referring to the spring clips that go on to hold the pads. New ACDelco pads come with the spring clips in the package and its important to replace them.

Does anyone have a z51 brake diagram or where to find one?

If you look closely, you'll see the clips set on the pad holder. I've included ACDelco's own picture of the pads and clips but note that on the Z51, the center clips are not used.

The ones I am talking about are the ones in the middle of the picture. The H-type looking springs.

Mine did not have those installed from the factory install, so I left them out on mine. Mine is a Z51 though and they are quiet completely.

Nor did mine, and the fronts are near impossible to get in. I wondered from time to time if they were for a different car then a corvette. Ideally, leaving them out seems to provide the best fit and finish, but when I left them out, the noise was unbearable. I could never find a straight answer from anyone either

Since I just did my brakes a couple of days ago, they are still quite new but drove it a lot the day before yesterday with no noise at all and they are solid. Yes, I replaced the rotors at the same time and saved the originals for turning and using at some point later on. Long ago on my '99, I put on new pads only and got tons of squealing. I went back and replaced the rotors and again, new pads, no squealing. Turning of the rotors probably would have worked just fine, but they had been turned before and new rotors were not that much cost so I replaced them.
