Default 0-60 for the 2008 models

Why is GM saying the new 2008 Vette will run 0-60 in 4.3 seconds and the 2005-2007 will run it in 4.1. Both with the Z51 package ?

I'm sure someone will post that slide from the unveiling that show's GM's performance claims. As I recall the 4.3 was for the A6 with the new "performance" axle. The Z51 M6 was shown as 4.1.

Because they can?

I think 4.3 is a little more realistic.

Here are the GM nos. before the 05 C6s came out.
Zero to 60 mph times quoted by GM.
6-spd manual w Z51 4.1 sec
6-spd manual w/o Z51 4.3 sec
4-spd auto tranny w Z51 4.5 sec
4-spd auto tranny w/o Z51 4.6 sec
As you can see, the A6 is about 0.2 sec. faster than the A4.

Does it really matter?

Ok since apparently it does I thought 0-60 for 2007 MN6 was 4.2 sec.

Depends on whether it's got the Z51 gearing or not.

4.3 is the A6 time.

From the 2008 technical seminar

Here is the previous years data for comparison:

if there's anyone here that the picture and chart doesn't make your blood "sing", you need an Aveo. Thanks for the chart again.

2005-2007 Z51 Mn6 avg. 0-60mph in 4.2-4.3 seconds. 4.1 is more unlikely for the 05-07s as that would be the fastest run out of many by a very skilled driver.

The published 2008 info does not say the Mn6 time is a Z51 or not for the 0-60mph time. It may very well be the base geared Mn6 does 0-60mph in 4.1 seconds.

I never understood why so many people read the 2008 A6 published 0-60mph in 4.3 as the 0-60 for both trannies. It cleary states that its the ET for the A6 automatic.

I think the 08' Mn6 Z51 with NPP will hit 0-60mph in 4.0 flat with a sklled driver.

Seems to me looking at that chart GM displayed the "best" times for each transmission. The 4.1 shown would be the Z51, the 4.3 the A6 w/performance axel and the Z06 stands on its own.

I'm willing to bet 4.1 is the best published 0-60 time GM will publish for ANY 08 absent the Z06. Don’t you think if they could legitimately publish a 4.0 time they would have??

Tom

So why wouldn't GM publish the "BEST" absolute times for the unveiling of the new improved 08's with the LS3. Seems goofy to me they wouldn't publish a 4.0 (with ANY options) if they could.

Why would they NOT publish a 4.0 if they could???

Assuming 4.1 is a Z51 Mn6 If thats an avg. fast time rather than the fastest time of many runs then thats quicker than the current Z51 mn6's which avg. 4.2-4.3 to 60mph with rare instances of 4.1.

I think with the added 40ish Hp, more torque ,and new Tr-6060 tranny would contribute to better 0-60mph times??

Looks like with the top end going from 186 to 190 is where the increase shows most. Gearing for top end to get it past the magical 300kmph top speed for Europe.
'08 car also weighs a few lbs more so I think .2 quicker is realistic.

0 - 60 has become meaningless to me on todays fast cars. It is so dependent on a good launch, track conditions etc that I could care less about what they claim. I'd rather see 1/4 mile times where we can see the 60' time, e.t., and trap speed. With that, we get a much clearer picture.

0-60 is about the most useless baramoter around, and usually indicates a strong aroma of mag-racer-itus. don't rely on it, don't quote it, don't lose sleep over it. take it to a real track

Tom is right based on discussions that I've had. This is the best time that they could publish. The car is not a consistent sub 4.1 second car. AFAIK, these times are Z51 MN6 and Performance axle A6. I've also been told that sub 4.1 second times have been recorded.
