GM claims they can’t put the Automatic six-speed paddle shift transmission in a Z06 because the transmission cannot handle the power of the Z06. I know there are a lot of forum members with A6s and mods making over 505 hp……. Any trany problems or is GM just blowing smoke and making excuses? ???

IMO GM is just covering themselves. Sure...other A6 C6's can get past 505hp...but how reliable is that for the tranny? Sure...it may last 10,000-20,000-even 50,000 miles...but GM needs it to last 100,000 miles and longer.

Torque ratings on GM transmissions are long term torque ratings, in other words how much torque the transmission can sustain over a prolonged pull. This is primarily a thermal issue rather than a strength issue. GM doesn't release peak torque ratings. That would address strength.

GM rated the A4 at 425 ft-lb and rates the new A6 at 450 ft-lb. We know from experience that the A4 could handle very high transient torque loads, and we also know from experience how to beef it up to handle even more. The A6 remains more of a question mark because it hasn't been out long enough, or in enough vehicles, to develop a valid statistical universe. It is more complex, it is longer, so it is reasonable to assume it won't handle the sort of transient loads a properly beefed A4 can. But it does seem to be pretty stout.

450 ft-lbs ( ~526-7 FWTQ) of rear wheel torque is more then most ppl can handle

I am surprised that vendors have not started selling beefed up A6 trannies ... I guess it's like shopdog said ... it's currently tooo new
