Default Extended Trip Gas Mileage

Just took a 3800 mile road trip in the C6. Combination of interstate, state highways, county roads, farm roads, and city streets. Here are the averages:

Dallas to Phoenix - 30.5 mpg
Phoenix to San Diego - 29.9 mpg
Texas (300+ miles) sustained 80-83 mph 28.7 mpg

Overall trip mileage: 29.0: Includes city traffic in Phoenix, San Diego, El Paso, Ft. Worth and Dallas.

That's awesome! The best I've got for a long trip was 29.3 Not a bad car though, to get almost 30mpg out of thats for sure!

That's about spot on for these cars. My wife's PT Cruiser can barely manage 26 MPG if babied.

I managed 28.4 MPG (real world hand calculated) on a recent 451 mile trip returning from Road America in Wis. My DIC reported 28.5 MPG. I was surprised how accurate that was.

Is that calc from the gallons and miles or the onboard computer? Mine always calculates better mileage than I am actually getting.

Sounds about right to mine that I check manually and the computer, which by the way generally are pretty close.

No way I can get even close to those numbers in my 2005 Z51 A4. I'm lucky to get 24-26 mpg on long trips and 17-18 around town.
The "performance axle" in the A4 Z51 does a number on gas milage.

Glad you said that Big Joe.
Although I'm getting about 23 on an Interstate/Town 70/30 split, I have been disappointed with the figures I am getting my A4 05 Z51 compared to my old C5 which clocked about 26 on the same diet.
The MPG stats on the sticker were the same as on non Z51 packages - maybe it was the dealer being sneaky!
Perhaps I just zip around quicker in my C6 because of my "performance axle," whether I realize it or not.

It sounds like the A4 transmission isn't great for mpg, that's for sure.. that said, you still have a performance car that's getting over 20mpg. Not too bad if you think about it.

I make some long trips and get numbers like that also with my 05 Z51 vert 6spd.. Did about the same with my 98 6spd. Only thing that might possibly be helping a bit is a catback system. Jury is out on the catback helping!

Every now and then someone will say something like this. Nice car but how can you aford gas for it or whats it get 12-133 MPG.
You tell them and they your lying!

If I remember right on the C5, the average MPG is based on up to the last 200 miles since it was reset.

Is it the same on the C6???

Hand calc has always been within .1, .2, gallon of the on board computer for all 13,000 miles on my car ('07 A6 purchased in September '06).

I got an indicated 35.1 mpg on a trip from Houston to Dallas, constant 75 mph and I followed a tanker truck for about 100 miles of the 280 mile trip. I was very light on teh throttle the entire trip. Headers really help mileage if you can keep your foot out of it.

That sounds about right and is close to what I got an a 2400 mile trip to Sebring back in March. Over the five days, I averaged 26.9 mpg with two old fat guys, two suitcases, a heavy camera bag and assorted other junk.

Tho today, I averaged 31.5 mpg over a 354 mile trip to NJ/NY.

I love this car and it makes it even more enjoyable to get such great mileage...

Yes, but you have to be very aware that there are alligators there that can ruin your whole day.

Must be the A4 cause that's what I get in my non Z-51 with the performance gears.

My wife also has a PT Cruiser and if we go on a long trip we take the economy car, the Vette.

That's really good! I've gotten 27.7 on a long trip. The C6 does get great gas mileage.
