It is worth it if you use it like it is meant to be used! Taking it to some road course DE events or even on your own with some local clubs!

I think you can have more fun with a base C6. Makin' it your own!

I do not believe there will be much of a jump in HP for the base or Z51 Corvette. Remember what led to the demise of the ZR1? In 1992 the base Vette went to the LT1 engine which had 300 HP. Now the ZR1 had 375 HP for an additional $31,683! Yikes! In 1993 they jumped the ZR1 to 405 HP, but the hand writing was on the wall at that point.
What I am trying to say is ; when the HP ratings are creeping closer together, you really need a very good reason to spend that much extra cash. Also, visually there was not that much difference between the base corvette and the ZR1. Chevy wasted their opportunity to make a vicerial statement with the ZR1. I have owned two and really like them, but I bought them used at about half the original sticker of $67k.

I'd go ahead and get the Z06. That or a C7. How much longer does the C6 have left in it's run??
A C6 with 25-35hp above the existing C6 is not a lot to get excited about.

A non Z06 C6, even if it has "435" horses, is still just another C6.

A Z06 OTOH, while not a "rare" car, is still not your garden variety C6. It is indeed and is referred to as "Z06". That means something even to folks who don't know Vettes as well as us.

Try as I might, I just can't get excited about an additional 10, 15 or even 20 bhp. Especially when I consider the price differential there is bound to be between the '08 base C6 and the durrent '07s.

I thought over the winter I would like to sell the vert and get into a C6 Z06. Then I drove one...........very nice car. But you cant drop the top (or even remove a section).
I've owned 8 vette's, C3's 4's and 5's coupes and convertibles. It comes down to personel preference. And what you want from the car.
I just sold the vert and my moneys (literally) on the 08 Z51 vert.

Enjoy the decision process that's part of the fun.

In So Cal Z06s do not sit on lots long enough to be test driven (unless they are Atomic Orange).

We have to remember you are paying for suspension, the wide stance, the flarred fenders, different wheels, etc.... The Z06 is well worth the $25,000+ compered to the C6. I have driven both and the Z06 is far more muscle and style than the coupe. (I really don't like removing the top and I don't like verts so that isn't even a consideration in my decisions.)

I think there is a chance we may get a 450Hp DoD LS3 C6 for the 2008 model according to a few guys on the forum with some inside connections.

There will be a 2008 C6 Z51 Automatic available with an optional performance axle(A6 auto only). Thats the route I'm going to go.
DOD...............say it ain't so

If you're not inclined to modify your C6....go with the Z06!

IMO Corvette is polluting the 2008 C6 with the DOD engine. I have a perceptual problem with a high performance Corvette running on half its cylinders....at any time. This design change is not performance-oriented....their priorities are skewed IMO. DOD is fine for Grandma's Impala but not for the Corvette.

Here come the DoD horror stories. I'll gladly take a 450Hp DoD LS3 over my curret 400Hp Ls2 any day. DoD or not the 50 extra Hp would out perform the LS2 and eat it's cake too. GM isn't going to implement something that will lessen performance. They have to win magazine track tests just like there competition. So the LS3 has to outperform the LS2 from any standpoint.

Also you can take it to a tuner and have DoD turned off if its that big of a concern.

base vette- 39-45 grand-425 hp-
supercharger for said vette-+- 10 grand
45+10=55 grand and you have more HP than the z06 and you can take your top off.

The HP difference isn't the only factor. Less weight, much better exterior, nicer wheels, etc. The Z06 looks like a mean exotic freak coming down the road, and honestly a regular c6 kinda just blends in with the other cars.

Default It's A Z51 For Me

As for me, I am going with the 2008 Z51. I currently have an '00 Z51 and it performs great. Even with with 345 HP, I almost never reach it's limitations. I can't imagine passing the limitations of a 435 HP '08 Z51, much less those of a Z06. I think the Z06 is a GREAT machine, but, realistically, with the club runs and trips we use the Vette for, I just can't justify the additional costs of a Z06. Also, I am fortunate enough to make just one payment for a Z51, but would have to make 36 payments for a Z06. So, a Z51 it is for me, and I will continue to give a big thumbs up every time I see one of those beautiful Z06's.

Gene...

No, it is not fact. Nothing has been published by GM on the new engine other than the fact that it will in fact be the 6.3l motor. This includes nothing definite on horsepower, torque or least of all Displacement on Demand.

Several claiming to have some level of inside information keep hinting about particulars. The introduction of any Corvette is filled with speculation and misinformation. In many cases deliberate so that leaks can be determined. Right now you can safely plan on the following. It will have a Motor. It will be a 6.3L. After that, your guess is as good as anyone elses.
