Why pick up trucks and ricers....
Why pick up trucks and ricers always want to race with the Vette? I constantly find it annoying when I drive my car for a joy ride. Even though 95% of the time I ignore them, there are still 5% of the time I really want to teach them a little lessons under the safe traffic conditions by stepping hard on the gas pedal. I'm sure many of y'all Corvette owners encounter the similar situations like I do, so what do you guys do?

I'm not so sure about PU trucks but the 'ricers' are typically younger kids that spend a considerable amount of time and money modifying their car....they merely want to test their handiwork against a worthy opponent. You might even be surprised...there are a few ricers out there that can blow the doors off a stock C6.
They're not all dropouts and rednecks. Most of the ricers I've met are actually some pretty nice guys....into cars and doing the best they can with what they have to work with. I've seen a couple very 'high-end' ricer cars as well. I wouldn't necessarily do what many of them do to a car but I respect what they're doing.
I get challenged virtually every day...you just have to learn to live with it.

They're hoping they can get catch an old balding vette driver in a convertible snoozing at a light so they can brag to their friends that they just toasted a Z06!

You hit a nerve, 75SHARK with your Mustang comment. I recall my younger days when I was TOTALLY in awe of Corvettes and just knew they were supposed to be faster than anything. Back then I remember we always wanted to see what a hot car would do, so it was no big deal to try to get one to race. It wasn't a serious challenge. We just wanted to see what a Vette could do. Heck, I just wished I had something worthy of making a Vette driver think he needed to show me something.
Fast forward 35 years and I bought a Must GT and finally had something fun and hot. I knew it couldn't beat a Vette, but I sure would enjoy seeing the Vette go! Two years later, a C6 finally, for me.

Racing a 'Vette is a no lose proposition for them. They win, they can say they toasted a CORVETTE! They lose, they say "what did you expect, it's a CORVETTE!"

I didn't mean to say any ugly comment. It's just that I once got hit in my '73 convertible (which I had painted 2 weeks before at $4,000) by some nut who lost control trying to race and act stupid. My wheel then came off and ripped apart the entire rear quarter panel. I'm still somewhat bitter and nervous when someone acts like they want to race. But anything can happen when you drive a car...that's what insurance is for. By the way, C5grandsport, I just read your article in Corvette Magazine...I assume that's you...that was impressive.

Part and parcel of having a Vette.
I had a guy in an Impala try to get me to race yesterday.
I told him there was no point as I had nothing to prove and drove off.
