Default Amsoil

If you use amsoil ,will Onstar still work on their mo. report?
Will it tell % of usage correctly.Any advice ?

Well, it is too early for April fools, so I guess I'll answer.

The car's computers have no way of knowing what brand of oil you are using. The oil life monitor will still work and that is what OnStar uses.

Just keep in mind, since it has no idea of what oil you're using it has no idea what the life expectancy of that oil will be. The monitoring system operates on the assumptions programmed into it by the engineers - which is based on full synthetic Mobil 1.

Thanks,that's what I thought since their both synthetic.Everything should be ok.

No, it is based on oil that meets the GM4718M standard. They just happen to use Mobil 1. Any 5W30 oil that meets the GM4718M standard can be used.

I understand that, I was just pointing out that the algorithm the system uses makes an assumption that the oil is synthetic and the oil life report would be worthless if a non-synthetic oil were used.

I believe the report arrives monthly. But it only is sending you the data that is already available to you in the DIC. And will therefore be out of date by the time it gets to you. Useful for documentation and reminders is about all.
