Rebuilt title 05 C6 Vert... price opinions?
Silver with black leather and black top. Fairly loaded up car, but does not have the polished wheels. Has around 1000 miles. Was involved in a freshwater flood and all work was done at the GM dealership. Vehicle is 100%. I know the guy selling it and I know the car. I can buy it for $35,000. For a Convertible it seems cheap, but I've been out of the market for a while.
Please no posts about it not being worth anything b/c of the title. Vettes with R titles tend to bring about 3 or 4k less than regular title cars of the same caliber. I know b/c I've sold a dozen or so with rebuilt titles. Good deal or not, someone thinks they are.
I'm wanting to have some fun with the car for a couple of years and I think this should be a safe investment. Yes I'll lose money, but I can still see this car being worth mid to high 20s in a couple of years. I have a wrecked 03 Vert on Ebay right now that should bring close to 20 not even fixed, so in comparison this seems like a good deal.
Anyway-it's a big investment and wanted to get some opinions of true C6 guys out there that have a good handle on the market.

not for that price. My personal opinion is that a rebuilt title will always cause the majority of people to run the other way when it's on the market.maybe, for 25 grand, but for 35 you can find a vette with a clean title.

Cars that are subjected to flooding have gremlins down the road. I wouldn't touch it unless it was a hardtop and I made it a trackwhore.
Can you get insurance for a "rebuilt" title?
Is that the same as "salvage?"

Have you traced the vehicle's heritage thru CarFax? Just because it's a Corvette doesn't mean it might not have been a victim of Katrina. If so, its entire electrical system will forever be compromised.

Yeah, they can be insured. The problem is getting a bank to finance one. If you're paying cash & are comfortable with it,go for it. Although,I'd rather have one that was hit & totaled vs one that was in a flood because I have yet to see one flooded that didn't have some problems down the road.

No way! Far too much risk of problems down the road.
Want proof? Ask the dealership who did the work what kind of warranty they're willing to give you.

I'm sure that you can sell almost anything privately, but I'm 100% certain that a professional would never buy a salavged tittled C6 for $4K less than a C6 with no issues. For example why not take the car in question to CarMax and ask the buyers what they are willing to pay you for that car.

Only if it comes with a lifetime, bumper to bumper GM warrenty with on site pickup and a new Corvette loaner. Plus an 'inconvinence bonus' of $500 for your trouble everytime the car has a warrenty claim!

Look at what loaded 06's are selling for. For around another 10K you're .....well you get my drift

That said I was told by my good friend (who ownes a dealership in Champaign, FWIW) a "Rebuilt" title on any title means the car's value is one half that of the same make, model & year.
Bring a vehicle to him to trade, produce a title with "Rebuilt" & one half book value's what you'll be offered, not a penny more.
Precisely what a rebuilt would be best used for.
But any other intent, you will lose IF you paid normal book price.
So look at the wholesale/retail value & divide by 2, that'll give you a good idea of what you're either getting in the way of a "deal", or risking in the way of a bath.
All that glitters is not gold and nowhere is that any truer than with preowned automobiles.
Good luck.

I have a loaded silver 05 vert. I do my homework on it's value pretty regularly, and I think retail it's worth low $40s. KBB actually shows trade-in on a low mileage, excellent condition car like mine at close to $44, but I know that is probably not real world right now.
Having said that, I would not buy a flood car either. With today's complicated electronics, too much risk - but you have told us you don't want to hear that - so forget I said it.
One last thing - some comments have been made about using it as a "track car". A convertible will have to have a full roll cage - and that's not easy to do on a C6 convertible.
Good luck either way

Coming from someone who has driven a lot of salvage/rebuilt/totaled or whatever you want to call it (it's all the same thing) cars in their life, I'd suggest thinking about finding a different one. My dad owns a body shop so it makes good sense for my family to drive cars that have been repaired, major savings in money. Please remember that most people on this forum think that their car is gonna melt if they drive it in the rain. That being said, $35 isn't a bad price for a loaded convertible, but with all the electrnics on the new C6's, I'm not real certain I'd want to have a flood car. You could end up burrying yourself in the car when things start to corrode....remember, this car doesn't even have a key to open the doors or start it....all electronic.
