Someone forgot to train you to empty your pockets when you take your pants off.

A few others have posted here about this same problem.

C6 fobs seem to be pretty durable.

I laundered mine last week. It still works fine, and it's clean.

The trick to saving almost all electronics if the get wet is to dry them out before you turn them on. Turning on when wet will fry them in many cases.

Dropped mine in a bucket of suds while washing the car. Took me a good 10 minutes to find it because the sound sounded like it hit the ground (must have bounced off the edge of the bucket). I didn't worry about it for a few minutes as I was going around to the other side of the car anyway. Then a bit later I started to look, couldn't find it, and my eyes caught the bucket and I thought, "Oh great, where's the one place I didn't look?"

Took it out of the bucket, dried it on my pants, and it worked immediately! They're pretty tough!

So do I. If we had a key slot none of this would happen.

As I hate to have bulky items in my pants pockets, it makes a darn handy way of "clipping" my fob to my belt.

I just insert it between my belt and pants waist and voila', it is secured. The length of the key itself keeps it in place.

And if I forget to take it off my belt and put it in it's customary place along with all of my other essential items, it falls off when I undo my belt and usually lands on my foot...which reminds me to pick it up.
