Default What happened to my XM?

Got back in my car and started it up today and the stereo was on AM radio. I hit "band" several times and only came up with FM1, FM2 and AM, no XM1 or XM2 even available, anybody ever have this problem?

Either a cable in the harness has come loose, or your XM module has died.

Call your provider first, and make sure they are still sending signal to you. My trial period lapsed before the renewal kicked in.

Nah. When your XM sub expires you still have the XM 1/2 button and just receive channel 0.

There is some type of hardware problem with the XM box.

I have had it happen, call XM and they can resend the signal. It just lost the signal for some reason, was fine afterwords.

I had that problem when the dealer replaced my unit after the 6-disc changer jammed. They had to download some additional software (or so they said) to get the radio to recognize the XM stuff. I have since let the subscription expire - never found any stations on that thing that were useful to me.

Happened to me and one other person here that I know of. We both fixed it by disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes. It came back after the "reboot". Try it. Don't short change the 30 minutes either. I disconnected mine for about 10 minutes and it didn't help. Disconnected it for about 30 and it came back.

Hope this fixes it.

Default Try this link.........

It will refresh your service. If that doesn't work, call XM.

i WOULD HAVE TO GO WITH A radio problem since you don't even get the "XM 1 OR XM2 signals on the radio.

That should show up without a subscription.

Yes. That's why you do the 30 minute battery disconnect. If the XM selection disappears from the touchscreen, it means the XM module got "lost" from the data bus. It's only happened to me once and the 30 minute (minimum) battery disconnect solved it. Worked for one other person here too. Give it a try before you fool with anything else!

Do we lose all data if a 30 min disconnect happens?

You don't lose anything but the learned fuel enrichment data from the PCM (it'll relearn after a few dozen miles of driving), your mirror positions, and you'll have to reindex the windows. You can "cheat" the mirror positions too. Just press the "1" for your seat position one time to recall the seat position and then press and hold "1" to re-memorize the mirrors which shouldn't have moved from before the reboot. If you press "1" a second time without re-memorizing it, the mirrors will reset and swing to point at the ground.

XM is back and kicking! I want to thank all of you who responded, I really appreciate you taking the time to help out a brother in need.

Those of you who recommended that I disconnect the battery for 30 mins get a special tip of the hat! That is exactly what I did and it worked like a charm. As soon as I started her up and pressed the "band" button on the tuner XM1 and XM2 appeared again.

Thanks again!

I had a problem with mine the day my car was delivered. Turned out to be a bad wiring terminal where the connector plugs into the xm unit located in the left rear of the car. When I had the problem my display would not show any xm radio. The guy at the dealer that repaired my connector said that GM is using smaller and smaller terminals and he guessed that during installation at BG that they just bent the contact when installing the connector. Check for this you might end up with an intermittent problem if it's not fixed correctly.
