Default Undercoating yes or no?

Before someone flames me I have searched and couldn't find anything about this. I would like to have this done for 199 dollars to help with , extra protection, road noise and possible rust prevention on the frame and so forth since I do live in a 4 seasons climate , and harsh chemicals are used on the roads. Being in a rural area ,, while I avoid gravel like the plague ,, sometimes some drives and so forth are gravel. What I am worried about is having some nasty sticky stuff all over the car that might cause problems with emergency brake cables, other moving parts, sensors etc. I don't want to cause ANY PROBLEMS

It is a waste ... the frame is painted so it will not rust until it chips ... which will probably take a long time ...

I agree that undercoating is a waste but...

Are the frame rails dipped? ie: painted on the inside as well as the outside?

In the absence of permanently placed jacking pads, there are 4 big 'ol holes that are potential entry points for moisture and debris.

The entire frame is dipped in a hot tank. It's a tough coating. If you want to deaden noise there are various coating and matting products that will do that.

I would not even consider spraying black goo on the underside of my car.

But I don't drive on salted roads, etc. either.

Looks like to me most of the underside is made of composites, aluminum, and stainless. I don't see the benefit.

I think it is a rip off and a mess.

Yes it is a bad idea.

Ever seen the bottom of an undercoated car? There's black sticky tar EVERYWHERE. If you want to reduce sound/heat, use sound deadening material inside the car. If you're worried about rust, well, don't be. It'll be YEARS before the frame rusts, and even longer if you keep it off the salt and gravel.

The next time your baby is up on a lift (say, for an oil change) spend a few minutes walking around underneath and you'll understand why undercoating would be a gross abuse. Not only that, any overspray that gets up into the center tunnel or (worse) onto the exhaust pipes would burn or stink to high heaven or both.

I remember when the dealerships pushed undercoating along with the paint and seat protection. Just say no.

Extra protection? Use a condom. Undercoating is a big waste of money on this car.

Default Thanks guys,,,!!

I know how to do the interior sound deadening I did it on the 67,, I will tell the wife we are going that route,, and leave it at that. I used dynomat on the 67,, it worked pretty good,, actually it probably worked really good but since the car was down for many weeks it was hard to compare. anyway,, I will use the money else where. This is why this forum is great,, bunch of guys putting their heads together ,, I was thinking too,, if I have the car for several years ,, and wanted to have it judged the coating would screw the heck out of my Gold efforts. While the interior stuff wouldn't when done correctly. they had the interior stuff as well and paint sealer and the leather vinyl treatment,, I will call and tell them we are going to pass.

thanks again

GM even does not reccomend this in the owners manual, Don't do it the underside of the vette is a piece of art, spraying black tar all over it would be a huge mistake.
