Default What is that interior smell?

Went to look at '07 coupes this weekend. Awesome car. I love the new orange color.

But what's with the smell of the interior? To me it smells like glue - not in just one of the cars at the dealership, but all of them. Shouldn't it smell like leather?? Does this smell go away with time?

Maybe it was just the heat (Houston, by the way).

Thanks

Mine had nothing but an agreeable new car aroma.

Maybe the guy who prepped the cars went too heavy on the lunchtime chilis?

It will go away in time and yes the hotter it is the more you smell it. Took mine about two months to go away with lots of open air driving.

Well my 06 I purchased in November of 05 STILL smells like a new car. Yes its actually glue you smell, thats why you dont see many screws and rivits in new cars these days. Adheasives are taking over, same as with houses. Some houses use adheasives in the entire frame and roof.

The Corvette has it's own distinctive new car smell. My old c4 had a very similar smell. Don't know what it is. The smell brought back old memories, and along with other reasons resulted in my c6 purchase.

Short answer is a rubbery smell

My 07 smells the same way, if you even stand by the new Corvette's at the dealership you can get a whif of it. And when I leave my car in the garage with the top off or the windows open it it makes the whole garage smell like Corvette. I Love The Smell

Ooooo, that smell...

I picked my vert up in March 06, and on a warm day it still smells like Testors spread over a badly put together model... but I like it...

Yeah my garage smelled (like the factory!) for about two months. At first I thought something had melted on to the engine until everyone I talked to said their car did the same thing..

They smell funky, that's for sure.

My garage reeked for a while even through into the kitchen where the door to the garage is. The garage stilll has a distinct aroma whenever the car is in there, but things have toned down a lot after several months.

I like the smell of a Corvette in the morning...it smells like victory!

I just picked mine up last week, and I identified the smell instantly -- BONDO!!!

Seriously, it smells just like Bondo body filler to me. Maybe the resin used in the plastic panels???

What you're smelling is bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate.

I always detected the sweet scent of Styrene in there also.

Well, if the upholstery was actually leather, it might smell like leather. So far, I've ripped the driver's side twice... It's cheap pleather.
