I got the so it's not a Z06 line yesterday on the golf course when a buudy of mine told his buddy about my new c6.........the plain vette( it is a c6 3lt a6 with nav).
I just shook my head and told him I didn't want to spend an extra 30-40 thousand for 100 hp and his reply was but it's the fastest car made. I just laughed that one off and said whatever.

Yep, it's amazing how ignorant some people are. My wife and I were sitting beside our car at a car show a few weeks ago and this idiot says, "Why would anyone buy a vette if it's not a Z06!" to his wife. I had to answer, "Because it's not a convertible!"

Same delimma I had also. I really, really wanted to order the Z-06 but I just could not give up the vert. I have a pickup truck I can roll 2 windows down in so I just could not pull the trigger on the Z. I would have loved the power but I really love the vert. Like I say to each his own and I down no one for what they buy because they are all great no matter the year or the body style.

Same here ... I was at a family event and everyone is congratulating me on the new car. One of my cousins asks "Is it just a regular Corvette ?" I told her that there is nothing "regular" about this car, thank you.

And this is from someone who was driving a Mini Cooper. Please.

Same thing. I was at a Skeet Tournament yesterday and a guy walks up to me and asked my why I decided not to get the Z. I said because they don't make one in a vert. He argued with me for 15 minutes that "of course they make a convertable ZO6". Finally bet him a hundred bucks, got on the internet (our club has wi-fi) and proved it to him. He still didn't want to belive it (or pay the $100).

I have had the same line (or similar variations) said to me at least 10 times over the past year.

30-40 thousand for 100 hp-right on the mark. 90% will never use the extra 100.

Same here my answer was:

1-Its not available in White.

2-Its not available with a Cashmere interior color.

3-It does not have a removable top.

4-It wasn't available back when I
ordered my '05 coupe.

5-I don't want to spend $20K more and not have all of the above features just for the performance.

If you race or if you just want the bragging rights of 500 ponies and are willing to sacrifice the sleek, sculpted lines of the C6 for the bulky nose and afterthought looking scoops of the Z06...then the Z06 is the way to go.

There's no arguing with the Z06's performance. Too bad they didn't give more thought to its appearance.

Unless you do some serious track racing the or live in Europe where there are no speed limits, the Z 06 power becomes more of a status symbol, not something you can use on North American roads.

No, the Hennessey Viper is the fastest car made. At 1000 HP, it'll do 255 mph. Don't remember the cost. They're only making 25 of them.

Blame the media. Take a look at any major car mag in the last 12 months and any time they mention or review or compare a Corvette to anything else, it's always the Z06. I have no problem with that, I don't want MT or CD to compare a non Z06 vette to a Viper or GT etc and have it's head handed to itself.

But that's the power of the media. I will tell you that this is REAL. I put up with that for 3 years when I bought my 99 coupe. I finally bought an 03 Z and suddenly I was in the "BIG's".

Oh well, I'd love to own a new Z06 but I have plans to retire early (in 4 years).

The attitude of the public at large is not particularly favorable to the Corvette in general. The Z06 has been getting lots of great press since it keeps up with the best that Europe has to offer for a fraction of the price so the C6-non-Z gets short shrift among the know-nothings. If you thought that owning a C6 would be prestigious, you'll be disappointed to find out that there are very few people who will give you admiring looks or make nice comments about the car. Those that do are nice to come across but it's the idiots who make disparaging comments that spoil the fun and pride of ownership.
