Default C6 Corvettes a trouble maker?

So far all Ive read on this C6 forum is nothing but complaints about several probs the car has.... People having cars that fail within the first 5,000 miles. For a car that cost as much as a C6 I personally think its unacceptable!

I was and am still looking forward to owning a C6 sometime next year but wow! It seems GM has alot of quality issues!

Is it really as bad as it seems ?

No way Rick ... each car has its share of problems but the C6 is much like the later C5s in reliability. The flying roof problem and DBS are the notable issues, but otherwise most of us have no complaints. 10,000 totally trouble free miles!!!

Not a problem with mine.

I think you will find that forums are good at bringing out the worst in everyone.

No. Human nature to complain more than praise. There have been problems with the DBS in 2005 and the delaminating tops in 2005 & 2006, but other quality issues seem to be getting better.

You've got to remember that those who belong to the corvette forum and post here regularly are probably a little more critical of errors because they know a little more about their cars than the average corvette owner and expect a little more of the finished product.

2005 with 9,100 here so far so good. Like anything else there will be good and bad. No different than the C5. I had a '97 that was problem free thru 60,000 miles yet people tell you to stay from the first year. Go figure.

Any type of owner forum will concentrate the issues and make it seem like everyone is suffering through the same problems you read about here. We're not. I have had zero problems with my '06, knock on composite material. It doesn't mean I won't ever have a problem for the dealer to address. Eventually something is going to need adjusting, tightning, straightening, or replacing. That's acceptable, at least to me.

I've had my '06 for 6 months now and only had the engine flywheel recall issue.

BTW: GM sent me the $230 behind-the-seat storage pouches for my trouble. (BMW never sent me anything for the 3 recalls on their car.)

The C6 is an amazing machine. It's my favorite car ever, no regrets!

No it's not--as others have said, you hear the complainers here, and with all due respect many of the stories are most certainly embellished, so to speak. Some are even wanna-be's who don't even own a Corvette. Roof a problem? Yes, but even that is NOT universal.

3,500 trouble free miles in 7 weeks-and the most comfortable long-distance-drive car I have EVER owned!!

Black paint is a little thin in places and batt went bad but other than that it's been great over the past 10 months/4,500 miles. Batt still goes flat anytime but I don't care cos it's not my daily driver.

.. forums tend to magnify the negatives about a car! I have over 4000 trouble free miles.... When I first started reading the forum I almost didn’t buy one because of all the quality complaints I was reading. The day I picked up my car I was sort of expecting a broken down bucket of bolts where things fell apart in my hands! That was so far from the truth its funny now. My vette has been just fine. My guess is there are a lot more happy owners than unhappy owners. Most owner surveys seem to back up that assertion. Yes the quality could be better but you'd be hard pressed to find ANYTHING close to the vette in all around performance for the money. I've very happy with my car but only time will tell if I stay that way. If there is a consistent thread its lots of owners aren't happy with their dealer service. Not much you can do about that unless you have a lot of dealers to choose from.

Good luck and just buy the car.. I think you'll love it.

I've had my C6 for almost 16 months and over 9,000 miles....virtually no problems whatsoever. I did have my roof panel replaced due to minor stress noise when traversing uneven terrain at slow speed but I never saw any visible delamination.

I could be mistaken but I believe a recent poll show the vast majority of C6 owners had not experienced any problems (including the infamous flying roof issue).

People having a problem are more vocal than those than don't have problems. I'll wager most C6 owners that have had problems wouldn't part with their C6 despite having trouble. Cars are cars and problems can happen but most C6 owners are happy and problem-free!

IMHO it's a great car!

The only problem I have had is getting depressed when it gets dirty. Then again, it gives me the chance to spend time washing it which makes me happy. Seriously, I've had zero problems in the first 3-4 months. It's just a blast and I find myself laughing every time I drive it...

I had an 05 6spd. man. for a year, trouble free. Bought an 06 in May with the new automatic and love it. Going on my third long distance trip with it this summer soon. Not one problem. Its a great car to settle down in and eat up some miles.

3 Thousand miles no problem so far thank goodness. Let me tell you and many many forum members have owned C2,C3,C4 and C5 Corvettes will back me up.The Early generations were far worse in all respects to what we have now but we loved them anyway. The more the car was a pain in the butt the better we felt when we beat the problem. So look at this way have patience and work the bugs out sooner or later they are all gone.
