Default X/M has Commercials?

Is it me or am I hearing COMMERCIALS on X/M?

Everything from Diet Pills to self help tapes on Channel 20 and some other channels.

I didn't pay for that! Anyone else have this issue?

And their commercials are poorly done and painful to listen.

I think it has something to do with Clear Channel winning a law suit. They own a few channels on XM and the lawsuit stated that they had the right to put commercials on those channels. XM's response was to add the same amount of channels that Clear Channel owns to ensure the same amount of commercial free listening. Just avoid the channels with commercials.

music channels have no commercials, everything else is fair game. Since inception, XM had limited commercials on the majority of it's channels, including music, for a lower price per month than Sirius. It then upped it's price to match Sirius and eliminated commercials on music channels, as Sirius was gaining ground on them.

As said before listed to the stations that have no commercials, or switch when one comes on. you have 100+ choices, sure you can find something to listen to if a commercial comes on.

The music ones have commercials also. For instance the 60s channel occasionally pretends to be some station from the 60's. They play the DJ's and the commercials from that time on that station. Old / new they are still commercials. Thinking of contacting my state's Attorney General about false advertising that music stations are commercial free.
One of the reasons that I thing XM is much worse than Serius.

HA, If I had been a SrNCO in SAC I wouldn't have sugar coated my response HA HA.

But seriously, I listen to DeepTracks, TopTracks, The Loft, XMU, XM Cafe and a few other channels and while there may be some chatter from time to time it way better then the "waste land" our local "free" FM radio has to offer. I drove to work one morning before I had XM and on EVERY channel at the exact same time (there are 6 local FM stations in St Louis I would listen to) and they ALL had some BS chatter going on. After several minutes I found the local college station and were playing music.

So for us poor folks here in St Louis FM is a waste land. XM (and SIRUS) is far better (and they play stuff I don't have in my CD collection or never heard of before - which I like) short of CD''s or your own MP3.

Tom, how's the sound quality of your XM out there in St. Louis? Mine is really poor, like it's muffled and coming out of a can.

PS: We have the same chatter problem (especially weekday mornings)here as well - scan six FM channels and all are BSing about stupid things.

My subscription expires on 7/5. The only channel I listen to is the XMComedyXL. In the past year, the commercials have doubled or tripled in quantity. For this I will not renew.

Too bad, I liked the channel.

It's a crap shoot which I can't figure out, I've heard some highly compressed songs/channels then I switch to another channel and it sounds every bit as good as FM. None of the offerings sound as good as a CD though.

But with the road, wind and exhaust noise I guess having a completely uncompressed signal with a 20-20K freq response would be costly.

Like everything, it's a compromise that I can live with.

Right, it does sound like someone who was in SAC.

I should know, I was in SAC for 6 years.

You are right, the music in St. Louis, other than the oldies station, is not that great. I love my XM.

And THIS has been discussed before!!!!

Same here...

Try mp3 player or CD's with mp3's... no commercials! You can get commercials for free on the regular radio stations!

You read and speak my mind! I was listening to the Comedy Channel almost exclusively..... until the influx of commercials began. Now, I question if XM is worth it. The Mesquite School District (Dallas area) runs a station on 88.5 FM that is pure 70's music with no commercials. I can listen to that for free rather than 70's music on XM while I wait for the commercials to end on XM. So... decisions, decisions...

This is my point! I think I will scrap the deal....why have XM if you have to listen to commercials?
