Default C6 A6 Axle Ratios

I am a little confused about the axle ratios offered on the C6 A6. I really didn't give a $#@* about it until I discovered (on the Forum ) that my C5 had the 3.15. I wouldn't have cared but now that I am use to the 3.15 I wouldn't want anything less, I might even consider upgrading to 3.42. Is the new A6 only equipped with a 2.52 axle ratio? Judging from what I have seen over on C5 Gen the standard ratio for a C5 A4 (think its 2.72) seemed to be disappointing and I came away with the idea that you needed at least 3.15 for decent acceleration. Are 3.15's a possible option with the A6? Is the C6 that much more powerful that it would still feel much quicker than my stock C5 w/3.15 and I wouldn't think twice about it once I drove one? Isn't the A6 just about as quick as the MN6 and how would this be possible with such a difference (2.52 vs. 3.42)?

Relax and have no worries, the 1st four gears of the a6 are geared lower then the 1st four gears of the 3.15. I had the 3.15 as well in an 05 and had the same concerns, but they are unfounded. The final drive ratio of 2.56 takes into account the 5th and 6th gear overdrives----the 1st 4 go gears are an improvement.

It's the gear ratio instead of the rear-end (axle) ratio.

..GEAR......Mode..or..Option
............Z06...Std_6-spd...Z51_6-spd...6-spd_Auto...4-spd_Auto
..1st.......2.66....2.66........2.97.... .....4.02........3.06
..2nd.......1.78....1.78........2.07.... .....2.36........1.63
..3rd.......1.30....1.30........1.43.... .....1.53........1.00
..4th.......1.00....1.00........1.00.... .....1.15........0.70
..5th.......0.74....0.74........0.71.... .....0.85
..6th.......0.50....0.50........0.57.... .....0.67
Reverse.....2.90....2.90........3.28.... .....3.06........2.29

Axle Ratio..3.42....3.42........3.42......... 2.56.....2.73(or_3.15)

Multiply the gear ratio times the rear-end ratio and see what you get for each.

Ditto
I've had the 2.73 C5, the 3.15 C5 and the A6 C6.
The A6 is by far!!!! the best yet.

The rear-end ratios and transmission ratios are less important than the final gear ratios.

The A6's final 1st gear ratio is lower than any C5 or C6 final 1st gear ratio. It's not an issue ...

Thanks!

I feel better now. My next car is most likely going to be a C6 and I was considering the paddle shifter. This won't happen for a while because I have only had my C5 for about 8 months and I still love the car. Still everytime I a see a C6 I get excited about the day I get one.

The A-4 is proven reliable. A-6 jury is out to lunch on this one.

C6 A6 Axle Ratios

With 30,000+ 2006 C6s and about half are A6s, doesn't sound to me like "out to lunch." They've been out for almost a year now.

The thread is about A6s.

Default So does the A6 limit modification opportunity?

When I look at the first gear of the A6 it seems like you can't really change out the gears if you want any type of drivability.

From what I've read, the A6 has a tenth advantage over the A4 stock. It seems like you can make big reductions in ET with gears in the A4 but you may not be able to do the same in the A6. Agree?
