I was able to coax mine off with a fingernail. Each letter was a separate sticker. Took a while, but they came off easily, with no apparent damage to the finish.
Do you think after 5 years he is still working on it?
when i bought my GTO, the previous owner had left 2 gaudy sticker on the back. it took me a full day to get them off and the paint underneath was all hazy. I could never get it out.
