Default The C6 is a Great Road Trip Car

My wife and I just came back from a road trip in the C6 from Portland, Oregon to Los Angeles and then back to Portland (about 2,600 miles during the trip). I thought about taking our MDX like we have in the past, but this time took a chance and took the C6.

Overall, I liked having the C6 more than the MDX (although I think I worried more about the C6 on the trip). The car was very comfortable for the 16 hour trip each way (which we did in one day each way), The gas mileage was better than the MDX (about 24.5 MPG overall), and although it doesn't look like it the C6 holds a lot of stuff in the back. We were able to get a suitcase, night bag, (now some of you will have to cover your eyes on this next one) an open Pet Taxi with a 12lb cat inside (he only came out occasionally to see where we were and use the litter box) and a full size litter box for the cat.

I was so impressed with it that I think the C6 will become our new road trip car if there will be no snow where we are going. If there is going to be snow the MDX will win out. It was a lot more fun in the C6 though.

I couldn't agree with you more, although I must confess I have never tried the litter box thing....but I'll take your word on that.

Hey Darrel, it's good to hear from you! We haven't seen much of you here lately. Sounds like it was a great trip in Mr. VR Coupe. Hope all is well with you.

I was a little worried at first, but I ended up putting a sheet down covering the entire back floor before we left and everything turned out fine... There were no accidents and the rim to the box kept most of the litter inside. The little bit that did get kicked out went onto the sheet and was a breeze to clean up... The sheet also kept the cat hair from getting onto the carpet.

Couldn't agree more... We just got back about 3 weeks ago from a 3,500 round trip from San Antonio to Nevada, back to the Grand Canyon, down to Sedona, AZ, and from there back home. We drove 1,050 miles the first day and didn't feel tired or achy, just hungry. We went to a near by watering hole and chowed down with a couple of Shiners. And our C6 is a Z51.

Yea, the C6 is a great road car.

I rather take the 3 to 4 hour drive to Vegas from So Cal in the C6 than take a 30 minute flight at 500mph's or so.

My wife and I went on a March vacation to Florida. The Corvette made it the most comfortable 3,000 miles I have ever driven. Believe it or not, my wife was more concerned than I about where we parked the car. She was like a mother bear watching over her cub. I'm still in a state of disbelief since she initially was against me buying the car.

I love taking road trips in the C6. Planning another two week trip to Colorado this summer.

Glad you enjoyed the trip...and that you didn't have to make any panic stops.

I knew I forgot something... I did not take any photos, but we did get a lot of looks from people and truckers on the road as the cat loved to look out the rear window as he was standing in the back of the car... A lot of the time I just couldn't figure out which ones were looking at the car and which ones were looking at the cat!

Sure they weren't looking at the litter box?

Seriously though, you knew the C6 was going to be a fantastic trip. Glad you reported how good it was though!

I too have an MDX but, I didn’t have a choice on which to drive on a road trip. The C6 was in Buffalo (where I purchased it) and the MDX was in Portland (where I live). Long story short, I had to drive the vette home to Portland in November of 2005, otherwise I would have to wait for the spring of 2006.. I drove through two blizzards. I encountered one blizzard in Nebraska and one blizzard in Wyoming. It was a great drive and the vette washed up nicely.

I got around 28 mpg. The MDX does round 19 mpg.

There is a plastic trunk liner that has a lip on it available from Mid-America. I friend bought one for his C6 and slips it in when he goes to the lake so wet and sandy stuff doesn't muck up his rear carpet.

Last September, my son and I took at trip from LA back home to Missouri. I thought it was going to be a long trip. However, when we returned home from the 4,700 mile trip, I was wanting to go again. I thought it was a excellent touring car. And fast too!

This was the reason we bought the car. We have a 7000 mile trip planned this summer and down to Vegas for the SEMA show in the fall. Next year when my number comes up for the Z06 we will do it all over again.
